You can get a lot of things taken care of in a chip, including the timing retard issue. It might not be a bad idea to shoot a PM to Don 95Vert since he's an SCT tuner, and could probably get you a mail order chip with the changes you'd like to have.
I got one to pull the shift retard, change the spark tables, delete smog, some other stuff, and you can do two tunes so my second one is "valet mode" with a 2500 RPM rev limiter.
If you are into self tuning, Craig Moates makes a $60 chip that has two positions (this is what Eric has) - the burner is $80 if you want to be able to burn the chips yourself.
I've helped a few guys out with chips -- doing basic stuff for just the cost of the chip. Not making any money off of it, just doing it for the love of helping guys out.
