Hey well i went into adjsut my valvetrain because it was kinda loud. And while taking up my upper intake a corner chunk decided that it was gonna break off and stay on the lower. I have no idea why, i have taken my upper off a million times in the past. But anyway my awesome girlfriend decided to get me the Performer RPM upper to replace the broken one, since thats the only upper you can buy. Anyone on to the question, how much low end am i giving up and how much top end am i gonnna get from this?

I got in on the begining part on the AFR/FTI bandwagon ride but unlike most I run the RPM upper.

I'll put mine up so you can compare.

You know it could have been fixed :D. Aluminum is easy to weld...

I'm curious as to what your experience is -- I have extremely good low-end torque, but no top-end, so I've been entertaining the idea of converting my Performer to an RPM2.

I'm glad this topic came up, if luck pans out I'll be buying a used RPM upper tomorrow. I figure once I ditched the EGR stuff, it shouldn't be too hard to switch between both the intakes once in awhile.

Smart move zen. Did you speak with ed about that? If money isn't tight, consider a 75mm TB to and have the inlet port matched for the 75. **** it, get some 1 5/8" longtubes also :D

Well with the heads, cam, and performer intake on there, power comes on hard and fast. If i floor it in 1st at like 25mph it will break my 275 nittos loose pretty good. It also seems like it pulls to 6k pretty easily. It says teh RPM is power from 1500-6500rpm. I mean when i race i probably barely go below 3k on launch and then it never drops to much in any gear. I dont think it would make me slower or anything though.

Low end loss is noticeable when going to the RPM, I know because I've done it. It pulls past the rev limiter though with the RPM. All that's gonna happen is the power band rpm will change. Instead of getting power right away it won't happen until 1500 rpm later.

Mine did the exact same thing. Weird deal! Was it the far back drivers side ear? We did mine up with some JB weld and it broke right back off when I took the upper off again. But get this, I used some RTV called "The Right Stuff" and the sucker held together and the upper has been off twice since.

Check to make sure your EGR or the valve on the bottom of the upper for the PCV valve isn't resting agianst the valve covers and causing it not to get a proper seal. That's what mine was doing and I believe that's why mine snapped off. Just don't want to do it again with the new upper.

YEAH!! It was the back drivers side ear that broke off. It seemed really close to the valve covers but i thought i saw some clearance. Maybe its touching. What did you do grind it down a bit? Ill check that out. I have these thick cork gaskets on my stock valve covers, so things are close. Also I think a rocker is tapping against my oil baffle. Its ok to grind down part of that for clearance right?

right now on my car i got a performer rpm + 70mm tb... on stock heads, cam, headers, maf haha, so imagine how much low end i am loosing, the car definitely pulls a lot harder/stronger but a lot of the peppy torque is gone, it made me faster but i cant wait for the performer 5.0 to get on there

I just switched from the performer to the RPM II (which has about the same amount of low end loss as as the regular RPM) and yea the powerband has moved up quite a bit. Before when i floored it at ANY RPM in 1st or 2nd I could spin my kumho 712's (255/40/17 all around) and fishtail. Now it just pulls hard off idle (because I actually have traction now) and around 3k rpms the tires will decide to break loose. Threre is a noticable loss in low end but in my street tire application I was welcoming it because of my traction issues. I havent pulled it up really high yet I want to put some miles and on and let the gaskets set before I pull it up to like 6k rpms or more. Oh and all this was done w/ a 3.55 rearend if that helps for reference. Also my shortblock and heads is listed in my sig.

75mm throttle body and long tubes are on the list for this winter. I need to replace my traction loc, clutch and tranny first. Each of those components are begging for mercy after 167,000 miles.

Ok so i guess i wont lose any real power, it will just move up a little. and maybe it will help me get some traction at the strip. Well im gonna be putting it on this saturday so ill hopefully tell you how different it is.

I bought mine with the front driverside ear broken off already. I got it welded back on and I noticed last week that its cracking around the weld. So now I'm thinking about getting the RPM upper also. With my current combo, the power doesn't kick in until about 3k and it keeps pulling hard until about 6k. So, I hope the RPM doesn't push my power band all the way up to 4500rpms. I hope the RPM upper would be better suited for my combo and not move my powerband up.

Hey ARed1995GT, you wanna sell that RPM upper when you get your Perf. 5.0 upper?

I hear that! I'm looking to buy a used tremec, buying new is about $1000 outta my league. Might be buying a buddys. My t5 isnt really raceable anymore, it whines every gear and is hard to shift and makes a whine noise as its going into gear as if its saying 'no no no, cant take this abuse anymore' :D Your car is gonna run killer once you get the hang of driving/launching hard!
