I have a 331 stroker with the Pertronix II ignition and added a Flamethrower coil about 3 years back. Car wouldn't idle this afternoon, after checking the ignition the coil has a large crack half-way around the coil wire nipple, down by the two terminals. Anyone else have this problem? I put the old Borg Warner back on and she's running fine.

Pertronix coil cracket

No, it's mounted vertically. It's in an early '65 model, shoved down between the timing cover and the dipstick.

never seen that before. I guess that's what you get when you buy aftermarket parts. quality control is horrible

Cracked coil

My first thought was a mfg defect, especially with the big fat "Made in China" sticker on the bottom.

Anybody knows who makes an American made coil?

My MSD Blaster II coil also has a big fat "Made in China" sticker on the bottom of it! It looks like we don't make hardly anything in this country anymore. Not long ago MSD and Edelbrock teamed up for a "Made in the USA" campaign. I guess Edelbrock is the last one standing.
