I'm going to pull the heads off my 02 GT next week and I am wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to pull the heads with the factory exhaust manifolds attached, or if I really have to remove the manifolds first. Obviously the job would be much quicker if I didn't have to pull the manifolds off first.

If anyone knows the answer for sure, please let me know.

Yes!
Also if you've never had your car apart before I'd suggest you pick yourself up a shop manual before you start, the crappy Haynes things are better than nothing but the factory Ford manual is the way to go. The Ford manuals may be 10x more expensive but they are 1000x better.

I have a 1997 Mustang shop manual (Ford version), which looks like it should be close enough. What do you think?

Close enough :nice: Your car has the coil-on-plug ignition where as the 97' will have coil packs, and the fuel rails are different but once you get past that you'll be OK. Don't forget to use new bolts when you put it back together.

Ya, what he said :D . Stock manifolds come off with heads. If your going longtubes, good luck, there a real bi@tch! if your keeping the old manifolds your laughin.
