--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok here goes I just got a 98 G.T that is said to have a 00 motor. Well I needed a belt and come to find out the car calls for a 98 belt. But i saw somewhere on this site that if the oil filler neck sits on the passenger side its a pi motor and if its on the drivers side its a npi. Well my oil filler sits on the pass side and the intake manifold is plastic with one sensor hole, from what i can tell it looks prety much like a npi intake. Oh and my car has coil packs that sit to the front of the motor. I really need help to find out what in the world this motor is so i can order a now cracked intake. Any help would be thankful.

If the engine is a 00 it's definitely PI. It may be a Windsor engine though. Is there a white sticker on the driver's side valve cover? If it's a Romeo it'll have "REP" printed on it and if it's a Windsor it'll have "WEP" printed on it.

It should also have the date of manufacture on it which can also be used to ID PI vs NPI.

I'm going to say that's a Windsor PI motor you've got there.

Can you post a pic of the intake? If you put on a later PI manifold (i.e. metal crossover) then no, you won't have to do any silicone nonsense. Just get new PI gaskets and put the intake on. If that engine really does have an NPI intake on it you're really going to be down on power.

Presumably the accessory belt is used because all of the ancillaries from the original 98 GT engine were retained so the belt routing would be the same.

The use of the coils on the front of the motor is another hold-over from the fact that the car was built pre-COP. That is, the wiring harness is set up for 96-98 coils so they were retained as well. If you wanted to go COPs you'd need to replace a good portion of the wiring harness.
