PI Swap Question - tried searching

I looked through the search results and couldn't find an answer to my inquiry.

I am contemplating a complete PI swap on my '98 Mustang GT. I have no plans for boost or NOS. No plans for cam swaps. At most I would put an intake elbow on and a MAF, maybe a CAI kit. No timing adjuster or any underdrive pulleys. No headers. So it'd be pretty simple.

My question is does the computer need to be flashed or tweeked in any way for the car run correctly? Or are those simple mods well with in it's ability to deal with? I've sketchy on Mod motor knowledge. I use my '98 as an everyday workhorse in the rain, shine and snow, but it needs more power (don't they all :D ). But I don't want problems with it running right and NY just changed the inspection to include a computer test, so I can't have trouble codes tripping and what not.

Are you doing the entire swap (heads and intake) or just the intake manifold? You could get a tune but not required. You shouldn't have any issues with CEL codes after the swap. The only thing is with the increased airflow with a swap the computer may lean out the fuel ratio so a tune would be a good option.

If I do it, it'll be the entire top end. Heads and intake. I'd buy the kit from Parkway I think it is. It's just over $1300 bucks with shipping. It's a decent deal. This is second time I've been thinking about this.

I recently had my 90 GT out for a few days and it is not a superior car. Well in one way it is superior. And that is in low end torque, but other wise the 98 is better car on all other fronts.

I got my kit from Parkway. Its a good deal in my opinion. It included everything you need for the swap minus oil and oil filter. I would get a tune, its not required but you may encounter a lean condition like someone else said and that would throw a code. I had cams put in the heads before I did the swap and without a tune, it wouldnt idle for nothing. Now with a tune, it idles great and doesnt have a miss at WOT like it did before. A tune isnt really required, but if you wanna get the most power out of the swap, I'd recommend it.

Mine ran great without the tune. I got the SCT mail order tune after, just b/c I felt more comfortable knowing the a/f is OK, and it helped a little in the upper rpm's. You'll be fine without a tune, but it's good piece of mind knowing that the a/f is correct.

Mine is fine so far (less than 48 hours after swap) so I dont think i am gonna get a tune. Mine idles between 500-750 rpm and i am cool with that

Keep in mind the reason I had idle problems was because I have VT Stage II cams. Mine needed the idle raised and it idles great around 850-900 rpms.
