Pics of custom made pcv baffle

I am in the process of rebuilding my engine. While I am at it I decided to work on a solution of the pcv sucking oil.

I have an Edelbrock Performer intake. This does not allow me to use the larger Ford baffle found on Exploer intakes because I do not have the casting bosses under ther egr area to attach it to.

After doing some research I discovered that the China Wall area of the engine block really adds to the oil sucking problem. This was according to a Roush Engineer. There is alot of splash in this area and you can see from the pics the stock baffle is open in that area. This open area really contributes to the oil sucking.

I made a baffle that covers the stock baffle in this area and creates more obstacles for the air to flow.

Attached, are some pics of a pcv baffle. I made it out of galvanized sheet metal. I first made a pattern out of thin cardboard. Then I cut it with tin snips. I used three washers as spacers between the stock baffle and the new baffleSee pic). I also removed the origional rivots and drilled and tapped the holes to 1/2 20. I then used two stainless steel bolts with loctite. There are two notches that allow oil to drain if it accumulates on the underside of the baffle.

This should reduce the oil sucking issue.

I have an Explorer inake on my car and I have no oil burning/sucking issues, I also have the PCV screen and it helps too. I went to change my 6 mo old PCV valve and it still looked brand new.

My old stock engine with the stock intake would suck a lot of oil through the PCV, I had to add a quart of oil a week for a year and a half and the car smoked like a mofo, so I know how you feel.

I agreee with you guys. The large Ford baffle looks to be a good solution as well.

However, it will not work on my Edelbrock and probably other non-Ford intakes as well.

The Edelbrock's do not have the casting bosses over the egr ports like the Ford intakes. The large Ford baffle attaches at four points. Edelbrock intakes only have the two bosses for the pcv bafffle so I could not use the large ford baffle on my Edelbrock for this reason.

Yes, the China Wall is a slang term for the back wall area that runs perpendicular to the block. These areas on most engine blocks have a wall area that is not straight and curves similar in appearance to the "Great Wall of China".

I work with an Engineer that used to work for Roush and he worked and developed a Roush intake in 1994 for the 302. The Roush intakes did not sell very well, but he is very knowledgable on Ford intake manifolds. The Roush intake had a much better engineered baffle than the poorly designed Ford baffle. He advised me that they discovered the China Wall area if left open will cause oil accumulation through the pcv. By covering this area a majority of the problem can be stopped. Which makes sense. The larger Ford baffle covers this area as well.

Prior to removing the motor I had a separator in between the pcv valve and the vacuum source. I accumumlated a few ounces every 100 miles.

I will keep the separator in line when I get this back together and post the results.
