yes its clear:nice:

i was informed that a putting gears in a 8.8 was expensive they were wrong I think i spent around $80

List:

axle bearing puller: FREE used and returned
dial indicator stand: $9.99
dial indicator: $4.99
in.lb torque wrench: $40
cleaner: $8
and other little misc. stuff

for me the hardest part is getting an accurate measurement on the pinion head and shims:owned:
All i got to do is finish putting bearing caps on and check backlash, wear pattern, fill with fluid tomorrow after work, then wait til next wed-thurs to put in car with springs shocks and new control arms:nice:

What do you guys think?

From the few gear installs I've watched, the last thing you have to do was the hardest, especially in terms of finding just the right shim for the job. Good luck, and its nice to see someone tackle what many are afraid to do.

More progress pics:::

backlash is Set

And me tired after alot of confusing measurements
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p39/bosko50/axle%20install/DSC01173.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

I dont think its hard to do a gear swap its just getting accurate measurements, having batteries for digital caliper(you cant get good readings if screen keep flashing) having the right tools and having the axle out of the car helps too, and to have someone with a little expireince helps also, and it helps to write everything down on paper or anything and this site helped with everything http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/5ohcpa/cpa5ohtech001.htm
and thanks to mo_dingo for his write up and links:nice:

Paint:nono: look in my first post second pic down left side above laptop ontop of the shingles, Flat Black if you look hard enough same pic on the table theres some primer i primed it with

All i gots left is to put the crush collar in and torque it down

When should I change the fluid?

And i gots to say one other thing: I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRICTION MODIFIER:nice:

Well I finished on friday night everything torqued down i got .085 for the backlash:nice:

Heres how i set the pinion preload with a 3 foot pry bar and a breaker bar with a 5 ft pipe on it:rolleyes:
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p39/bosko50/axle%20install/DSC01178.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

the cover is pretty thick:nice: and since nobody else has one I guess i can be the pioneer:D and test it:nice:

I think it looks good:nice: View attachment 424146 :nice:

here you go

finished axle

2 axles

in the car

and if you read my other post i have a grinding noise under coast/no gas which i guess means i need to reshim the pinion and recheck everything it shouldnt be that hard since i know how to do it already I just go to get the right measurementsand i plan on pullin the hole rearend back out of the car just to be safe.

let me know what you do for the grinding noise. i have the same thing after adding too much fluid then blowing some seals. could this be my pinion gear? if it is what should i do, the pinion bearing was just replaced so this could make sense.
thanks!
