Just picked up this 70 fastback the other day. Tubbed, narrowed. Very solid car. It's been sitting for years with no paint on the tinwork, so I'll have to clean it all up and paint it, then get the interior in it so it'll be a nice winter project. Think it goes good with the mach?? Wierd thing is it was originally orange also. Anybody know what's the best way to attach all of the tin work?? It is all there and fastened with screws for now, so do you weld everything up? Any concerns with welding to the tubs? I think I will learn alot with this project as I don't know much about tubbing a car.

I wouldnt weld the tin work,I would use Dzues fastners so they remain removable.

Do you think you'll ever need to access anything again though?? Then how would you actually seal all of the seams? Just wondering.

normally, the panels are riveted together with some seam tape to keep out water/debris/burnout smoke (hehe). Exception being if it has a 'tinned' transmission tunnel...alot of guys like to use dzus on them for easy removal. Since your stuff is steel, you could either weld or rivet the stuff in the trunk, you shouldn't ever need to remove it. Don't weld the tubs to the quarters though, just fill in the gap with some sealant. The tubs can/will distort and can wrinkle up the quarters.

It looks like whoever did it, did a good job. Car looks good and sits right too. How much did you get it for, if you don't mind my asking? I wish I could find something like that...

Yea, I think they did a pretty decent job. Well the paint is about 25 years old on it so it needs a good paint job, I got new bumpers in the box with it. I have to go back and pick up the interior and chrome. It has I think basically a stock 70 cleveland 4 barrel motor with a 700d.p. and headers. I got it started and it seems to run pretty good, with good oil pressure. Only rust anywhere is under the cowl a bit and a few small bubbles on the bottom of the pass. door. I don't know, I probably paid a bit too much, but I have wanted something like this for a long time and it just kind of come up. Also the car was only about 7 miles from my house. Well I paid $8000. Too much?? Someday take the motor out of the mach and put in with a tranny brake. That should be fun !

$8000 might be little high, but I don't think you build a car like that for much (if any) less, plus you save yourself the hassle if its already done properly, so not too bad. If the body is straight and solid, I definately be happy with it. With that chassis, it should hook pretty good, might be pretty quick with the existing engine if you flog it hard enough.

What trans? Rear end? Ladder or 4 link? Stock front?

looks like a great project car and sounds like you can have fun with it and learn a bit at the same time...seems like a good buy, as for the price, i dont know, seems reasonable

9" rear with 4 link, c4, stock front. Yea, it is a very solid car.
