Pics of my new Saleen AKA: Diaper stang

posted a few rough pics of my lx saleen clone i picked up for 3300 a few days ago. spent alot of time in the 5 days i've owned it fixing/modding/putting it back together.

its nickname is the diaper stang. we found over 10 baby diapers in the car, it explained the smell.. i got it with no interior and most of the engine disassembled.

this week we put the engine back, new aluminum radiator, new starter, new mark 8 fan, new clutch/flywheel/tob, ect, most of the interior, fixed the alarm, got it running, march alt tensioner/ps relocation im sure theres more..

i think i got a pretty good car, except ive got some nasty surging problems. haven't investigated yet. hatch struts work, map light works, trunk light works, ashtray door works.

thanks. my hood latch broke today @ 60 mph. wrapped the hood over the windshield pretty good. got a big dent in the roof and the cowl area wrinkled a bit.

guess its getting an unpainted 2.5" cowl and ill get it repainted this winter. gotta get some engine stuff done first, god damn cars.

yep.. it was my second day driving it if you want to break it down.

its also got some idle issues, throwing lots of lean codes.. so glad ive got my daily driver.

Man I feel for ya. I bought my 92 and spent weeks getting it up to snuff. First time I take it out and WHAM! Hood flips up and cracks the windshield and dimpled the roof. Still have the hood in my back yard with a couple hundred rounds in it. Screwed up my cowl too. I was pissed off to no end. Insurance company totaled it but left the title clear so I put on a new hood and cowl and windshield then sold the car for $7500.... still amazed I got that much for it

got my surging idle, dying, all running issues fixed today. distributor was off a tooth.. runs awesome(r) now, and it idles like a champ! time for a cam..

2.5" cowl hood will be here next week. im not sure when ill get the body work done. gonna focus on making it as driveable as possible now.

updating this since last time my hood had just flown up.. ive been trying to keep patience with this car, and make my $$ stretch. so far i've done pretty good. black interior swap including corbeau seats for $300, smoked lx tails $50, ect. almost everything in the car works as it should now.

just need to get my cc plates installed and an algnment, fan relay and new stereo crap wired up. here is some pics since last time;

View attachment 248810 painted 1/4's and rear hatch trim for $15. it matches oem black almost perfectly. its made by rustoleam. got it at autozone. all i did for prep work was used gojo and rubbed it over the panels and rinsed with water.

thanks. im not sure where its headed body wise. i had thoughts of repainting it this winter, then i have thoughts of just primering it black and building the piss out of it instead.

lots of little stuff i want to do, knocking them out pretty quick though lol.

please dont primer it black, i usually dont like red, but the saleen thing you got goin on with red looks sick, keep it that way

I'm with Shaolin, I don't like red either, but it looks good like it is.
