Pictures - fixed yellowed headlights

I had really yellow headlights on my 1994 stang gt. I wanted to buy a new pair of headlights, but I don't have the money for it, and the money I could use for it, I could put other things on the car.

I decided I would try to fix these 13+ year old headlights.

the supplies I used were just 1500 grit wet sanding paper, used very little water; some polish, [I used this scuff it stuff that I had handy at my auto collision school, and some dupli color clear coat.

that was my before picture, the best I had of the headlights, I tried not to take any pictures from the front because of how bad they were. They look decent in that picture, but without a flash it looked horrible.

also i'm posting in here the tail light bezels I painted for my car, since I don't want to make another thread or bump my thread asking about it.

also, notice my tail pipes, i just took a red scotch brite pad and wiped it down. I still need to do a little more, but the tips are pretty good looking now.

and i also resprayed a little bit of the front bumper, cause it was all faded.

and also sprayed the rear.

and the rear flat black piece under the mustang gt.


next i'm doing the fog lights, to see how they turn out, since they are all blackened.

turned out pretty decent. nice work those headlights look good. i wonder how it would look if you bought that lens tent spray and tented the headlights to the smoked look. i know lazer red looks good with smoked headlights. i bet it would look good with the tented headlights and it would be cheaper than buying new headlights

They turned out pretty good. This is something I've been wanting to do to mine, since the clear coat on my factory headlights is starting to flake off a bit, and I haven't been able to justify buying new ones yet.

i was thinking of getting some of that tint stuff.

whats it called? maybe this monday i'll do the tint.

i would make them look a little different from the smoked ones, just so its a little custom.


and stanggt, its a real simple job, took probably a half hour or so to do in full.

I wasn't going to do it originally, because my thunderbirds headlights are like that, and i tried wet sanding, and it didnt look any better. it actually looked worse.

but this worked great I feel.

the lights are alot brighter too, i pulled up to a bay, and had the door down, only did one, and turned the lights on, and you saw the one i did so much better then the one i didn't do yet. I have yet to drive my car at night since i've done them, but I know for a fact they are brighter.

no need to clear them. I did my one at work because I wrecked my one headlight so I had one new and one old. I used 2000grit wet....used a dewalt buffer with woold pad with 3m rubbing compound...then black pad with polishing compound.

However Im intested in the tint stuff...id liek to see how that looks...since I hate how the boi and other aftermarket smoked corners look...reason I kept my stock headlight set up

I only cleared them because I heard it helps stop from going all yellowy again, and when i didnt clear them, It would get all blurry and all. It looked great when wet, but then once it dried they got all cloudy.

I put a coat of clear on, and they looked like they did when they were wet.
