My ’66 vert has had the worst clutch chatter imaginable since she’s been restored (and converted to a four speed from an automatic). I’ve decided to fix it, one way or the other. I’m putting a Centerforce clutch kit in (w/ t/o bearing and pressure plate). I just received the four speed (had the old top loader rebuilt), and had the flywheel turned. I found about .011” runout on the flywheel at the crank prior to disassembly. After having it turned, I’m reading .001-.002”.

I think I’m going to resolve the chatter, but here’s my question. I don’t want to use the pilot bushing. I want to replace it with a pilot bearing. I purchased p/n D4DZ7600A, but it’s going to stick out just over .200” beyond where the pilot bushing did. That makes me nervous. The clutch won’t hit it, I have the clearance, but I’m worried about…I dunno, just need some other opinions I guess.

I tried to order p/n C20Z7600A, but it has been discontinued. I did order p/n D8TZ7600A, but it is IDENTICAL to D4DZ7600A.

Should I be concerned, or am I alright to knock it in and drive on? Thanks in advance.

I got rid of the old bearing in mine. It was not even a roller bearing! So I used the same part that comes in the newer 87 through 93 mustangs. It has worked great!

The D4DZ7600A p/n is the bearing I use on the 5.0 engine...the same one you are referring to. Knowing you're successfully running it with the same setup makes me feel a lot better. Thanks!
