Pilot bearing removal

So I made the mistake of leaving the pilot bearing in the crank on my 306. No that I have a C4 Ill need that out. So my question is, how do I get the bearing out when the motor is already in the car?

get a pilot bearing remover from your local auto store...or a hammer and punch.

Find a socket or extension bar the same size as the pilot bearing hole. Pack the pilot bearing completly full with grease. Stick the socket or extension bar in the pilot bearing hole and give it a big smack. Hydraulic pressure will drive out the pilot bearing.

I thought about doing that, but I didnt want to deal with the mess. a hammer and punch got it out in about 5 minutes. thanks though

Iv tryed that grease trick and ill i got was a face full of crap...so i stuck with the cleaner of the two. Good luck.

that is why you pack it with grease, not crap. J/K.

always done the hammer and chisel, worked great and didnt get a socket or anything else full of grease.
