What I have found out suggests that the concrete at the beginning of the drag strip is untouched. The staging area and paddock are also untouched. The track surface itself is being replaced. In the case of the front and back straights, just the upper half has been ground off and replaced, since those were apparently roadbeds already from the days of Vanport City. The turns between the straights have been completely removed and roadbeds have been laid down. Sounds like it's going to be a much higher quality surface than before. No more sinkholes, concrete patches, or oil slicksNice. Do you know if they are going to do anything with the burnout box, staging area, and 60'?
Yeah, that will suck. Keith is gonna be pissedand it sounds like all turns will have the harsher style FIA curbing even T10 so no more climbing the curb there which many people love to do.

Given that they've lost a couple big name events in the recent past, I'll be happy if they just keep the track open at all. It would be nice if they could win back some of what they lost, but I'm not counting on that happening anytime soon.Maybe the city will keep putting money into the track every year, its seems to get used more now that it did a few years ago.

Sweet. I thought that Champ Car had dropped Portland after last year. Now if we could just get American Le Mans to come back...well i looked at the champ car home page and they have a date for july 25-27 2008 so all is not lost.
That's good info, thanks!From what Pete has told me in our heads up meetings, the big events don't bring in alot of money to the track itself as they are just renting it for the event. They make just almost as much on drag racing street legals and training rentals.
The big events do bring a lot more revinue to the community though.
