so cal
I am freshening up my 347 with a hone and new rings. Pistons still have .005 clearance as recommended.
I have Probe #10660-40 pistons and ordered Summit Racing's .040 rings to install. I went to measure the end gap on the top ring and came up with .030! The Perfect Circle used rings I just pulled have .020 gap currently! They started at .016 as recommended by Probe. Any suggestion on why new rings are measuring this way?

Thanks

Tom,
They should have come with directions on recommended gap based on stock, n02, turbo/super charged should say like so many thousands per inch then multiply that by bore. Basically you need those directions. If it is a cast iron ring that does not sound out of line but without knowing the material who knows. Call Summit:shrug:?

BTW nice Bronco! can you post a picture?

It's a moly top ring, I can't imagine .030 as a recommended ring gap. I think the package said factory gap which I am not close to at this time. I'll have to look when i get home.
