Yeah, apparently the first owner took the rims and tires off shortly after buying it and put other ones on it. These were stored in a heated garage until the guy I bought it from took ownership. He was given the option of the original ones or the aftermarket rims for extra money, he took the originals. The tread looks basically new, they only have probably around 5000 miles on them. My trip to work is 15-20 minutes one way and doesn't exceed about 40MPH so I am not too worried about it. But I do agree, it isn't a great idea. They will be changed soon hopefully.

I used plastidip to sample whether I would like white wheels on the Daddywagon. I do like it and I am gonna have them powdercoated somewhere down the line. I have since peeled the plastidip off and the wheels are black again.

Thanks! I like the white too! I want to powder coat but can’t really afford right now. I did just spend $40 on some trim rings for those wheels. Just looking to brighten up the look a little. I think white with chrome caps and trim rings will look fantastic on this car. I can hardly wait. The rings should be here by the end of the week. Back on topic... I think plastidip is awesome and useful. You get to be creative with the appearance of your car without doing anything permanent that you might regret down the line.

Thanks for the picture and opinion. I was going to use it for the same purpose, just sort of a test you could drive around with for a little bit to get a feel for it. And from what I see here and other places online, it sounds like as long as it goes on thick enough it will come off. I am just thinking with the turbine rims even if it goes on thick removal will still be tough. I have enough things on the checklist right now (oil, trans and rear gear fluid changes, rear wheel bearing/seals, u-joints, fuel filter) I will just keep this on the back burner for the time being. It's nice to have some solid opinions and first hand experiences with this stuff though.

Back to the original question Crown Vic asked, I just think putting plastidip on an old set of turbines is a bad idea. That stuff will never come off all the way. Imagine trying to get it off? My son used it on some cobras he had, but those wheels are a lot simpler than turbines.
