hey guys i am in need of big help my car is running a little rough when driving kinda chugging along and i can not figure it out. so far to try and find out whats wrong i have replaced the distributor, the carb the spark plug wires and the intake manifold. I am not sure what is going on with it because i have no idea why it would be doing this. I am going to try the carb again today because i think that might help a little bit. so guys if you have any advice please please help because this is my daily driver and it has been down about a week now. it has a summit distributor in it right now with a stock style coil so i am not sure if that would help. thanks again for your help if you can help

i will definatly try the 12v to the coil for sure and Cobain03 i did try the fuel filter but i am going to go though it again and check that adn the timming is what i have been messing with the most but i cant seem to get it to work so i will try it too again tho thanks again guys i got tomarrow off work so i am going to mess with it alll day so i will post more info

My engine just started running really rough this past week, finally Dx-ed it today as a bad condenser w/ the help of a reply from here.

First thing I did was checked for water in the gas, unhook your line at the carb and crank it just enough to get about a cup full out in a jar (keep it from splashing on anything as car can catch fire easily w/ the fumes, wrap the jar top w/ a damp towel, get help w/ this if you can) Any water sitting in the bottom of the jar?, if yes that's most likely your problem.

Check over all your vacuum lines to make sure one's not broken or came loose, that can cause a rough running engine, check especially near the manifolds.

Are the points, condenser new?

How old is the coil?

When did these symptoms start, has the car ever run good for you since you've owned it?

it is a new electrocic ignition, the engine is a new rebuild that i did so it has run well before this hapened so hopefully these responses will help. i will definatly check the fuel for any water, the coil is not to old maybe a few months but is not a high energy one, i had a better one on there but it broke so i had to replace it just with a stock one from checker. the symptoms started about id say three weeks ago its been sitting for about two weeks now while i have been trying to figure it out

kinda off topic but what i love about these type of cars is that you can always play with things to see if it makes it better or worse. adjust the dist. for timing, adjust points, testing the coil ect.

dont loose your hope man, there will be MANY more of these situations pop up and thats why Stangnet exists. Theres a whole bunch of knowledgeable people here that have helped me (19yrs old) get mine going.

Based on your statements, the replacement coil had been working fine. Unless you dropped it or something it's not likely to just go bad sitting there. However, you state that the old one "broke"... how? That sounds a bit strange.

Fuel contamination does indeed sound like the most likely culprit. How full is your tank? Can you drain it and add some fresh gas? You could try adding Berryman's B12 to evaporate any water, but there's no guarentee that water is the contaminent.

Did you make any changes or adjustments (install new widget, adjust timing etc.) before the problem began?

hey guys so i was talking to my neigbor and he seemed to think taht it was an electrical problem so he recomeneded that i basicly hot wire the car so i did that and by bypassing all the electrical before the coil it runs MUCH better..not perfect but probably 90 percent better so wich leads me to believe obvoiulsy there is something wrong with the wiring to the coil (it is pretty old) and also that there is possibly fuel contamination.. so my question is waht can i do about the coild because i cant really keep hotwiring it...looks a little sketchy haha and the fuel thing it ahs a full tank right now and so thats not good for draining it what could have caused the contamination i had drained it when this started because i had a fuel line in the back that was messed up so it was clean when i put new stuff in.
