Alright Im not the most noligable on this topic in fact i know nothing at all.

I thought i had it figured out till i read another post. Then back to square one I go.

whats the absolute best way to go as far as our Vehicles computors are concerned?

First i thought it was to get a local shop to flash your system /wrong only good till you change something else

Then i thought it was to get a Custom chip /wrong only good till you change something else

Again i think i got the right idea with a programmer but do i need a chip with a programmer?

OH wait someone said SCT software now im so confused its just silly dam someone gave the facts on gears so good it should Be placed in the FAQS of this board can we get some straight info on chips, tuners, flashes and this SCT software **** please!

Get a programmable chip once you get gears so that you can fix the speedo problem and do an initial tune for the stuff you have on there at the time. You can keep this tune even as you add more bolt-ons, you just won't get as much out of them as you might if you reprogrammed every time you added something (the difference isn't worth getting the tune redone every time). Then you can get a retune done after you get a few more mods.

The only time you pretty much have to do retunes is if you are working with changing internals, adding nitrous, or adding forced induction. Don't get me wrong, you could get away with not retuning, but you don't want to, especially with as much as you spent on those type of mods.

Please use punctuation, no flame intended but it makes it hard to understand what you want and what you are looking for if we can't read your post.

Everybody has their own opinion of what you should and shouldn't do. There are no hard facts for a lot of things. Computer flashes are something people here are torn on. I really don't think they are worth it without extensive mods. Money can be better spent elseware. Messing with the computer is just something that can give you more problems than not if it is not done correctly. If you go to the "reviews" section of Stangnet people offer their input on various aftermarket products and it is pretty helpful. I have read a lot of reviews of chips and a lot of people have to send them back to the company numerous times because they were burned incorrectly and such. It just seems like a headache to me unless you have a blower or internal stuff done. A chip on a stock stang=. Again it all depends on what you want to do, so you need to be more clear. :nice:

Attention Whore! :jester:

I agree with this guy on computers though. Modifying the computer is expensive and risky. I'd wait until you get quite a few mods and then mod the computer.

1st thing you need to do is figure out in what direction you are wanting to go with your ride. Are you gonna go Blower, are you gonna go Turbo......Nitrous.........all bolt-ons?? Figure this out first, get some work done, then get you a chip or have it dyno tuned. No sense in buying a chip for cold air, or a throttle body, or any of the small things like this. If you tell us what your plans are, maybe we can give you more advice on what to do !!

#1 Goal - Make the car fast and still pass Massachusetts emissions!!
#2 Long term goal - To go SC-ed
#3 Dreamer Goal - Some Lumpy Comp cams just like someone posted they did to thier car but, I was told once you mess with internals forget about emissions so thats out. :(

Now I did it in reverse i made it look they way i wanted before i made it go fast. I know its frowned on but lets just look past that shall we? I dumped 4k into the exterior now im ready to dump 4k into mods! :nice:

My current mods are
Mac cold Air
Magnaflow magnapack cat back
Steeda Comp srings

My immediate plans are Bassani mid length headers with bassani's Catted X-pipe. I'm going to run around for a year with cats off and slip in the cats for emission testing. I was told this would be the easiest setup to run and make that happen. And since im not Rocafella im going to do the K-member and coil overs when the headers are installed. Since Im under the understanding that doing that stuff at the same time will save on labor correct me if im wrong -dam i feel clueless
I plan on Getting 3.73 gears because i want to go Sc-ed in the future. Heres where my problems starts. I really need to pass emissions and i was told that when i recalibrate my computor for stuff like this i might have a problem passing. Im not sure on how true this is since i dont have all the facts.

I dont blow smoke i want to mod my car but i dont want to do things twice.
As is understand it some tuners let you shut off the tunes you have running to pass emissions maybe im miss lead. I just dont want to buy a custom chip only to find out Ill fail emissions with it and need to buy something else to pass.

I also plan on getting Accufab's70 MM TB and plenum.

you won't need a tune until you get sc'ed. get mil eliminators for the o/r x pipe and a speedcal for the gears. then, once you install the s/cer, get the car dyno tuned. if you want the capability of tuning the car yourself, get the SCT software (www.modulardepot.com) or the EFI software (www.modularmustangs.net).

as long as you have a decent tune, you'll pass.

hey dude check out the TwEEcer from "Slower Traffic Keep Right LLC" At www.tweecer.com for 380 you can tune your computer to what you want plus have up to 5 different tunes with one reverting it back to stock or 550 will get you all the same stuff plus a realtime data logger and if you have a laptop you can watch the real time screen as you drive/race. 5.0 mustang did a whole artilce on all the systems out there in there june mag.

While I love my tweecer, it is not for everyone. It can be very complicated. 99+ eec's only allow you to use 2 programs plus the off position, and you are really flying blind without the RT version with datalogging and preferably a wideband. But still for about $900 total for the tweecer RT, and a PLX m300 wideband it is a very powerful tool if you take the time to learn it.
