Hey all ! Completely new to the Stang world. I bought a 68 Mustang Convertible for my parents for their 50th anniversary. My father is a retired Ford man, and we’re a Ford family. I have very limited knowledge of cars. i really need help on how to correctly identify and confirm the motor is a J-Code. The VIN has a J in it. Also, where’s the best source to estimate value of the vehicle? Condition between fair to good. Thanks in advance! Joe.

Aloha and welcome aboard.
I think J was a one year only option 302 4 barrel. It replaced the various versions of the 289.

Original Block should be stamped with the cars vin behind intake or head

Block should have casting number by starter, and should probably be a C7OE or C8OE

Does it still have its tag?

That is harder, one persons fair 50 yr old car is another's rust bucket.
If its for insurance get a professional appraisal and be prepared to be disappointed with the number.
