but I still dont know why the tags say coupe when it is a fast back.

Because once upon a time, somebody stole this car and swapped out the VIN and tags from the stolen car with the VIN and tags from a junked out beater that they had valid title to. This is a common theft trick.

Car theives find a wrecked car in the junk yard. They buy it for salvage price. Then they go out and find a nearly identical car to steal. They take the VIN from the scrap car and put it in over the VIN to the stolen car. Ta da!

Don't the I6 cars have 4 lug spindles as well? Or did Ford stop that before '69?

6 cylinder cars were 5 lug in 1969.

that was my first impression too!

I forgot to mention on my 69 Mach, the buck tag says "Card Red". The color code lists the car as Candyapple Red, I'm not sure why there is a discrepency. Every thing else about the car is spot on. I've often wondered if this is just a typo and should have been "Cand Red".

Another common practice is/was to cut the front clip off of one car and graft it onto another for collision repair. I have seen this done more than once in a reputable shop in Texas. The shop that restored my car did exactly this on a '65 Shelby. Is it still a Shelby? The shop went to great lengths to transfer all the VIN data, including cutting out the portion of the fender with the stamping, and grafting it in place on the replacement clip. Which does suggest at least a probability of theft, but there's no way to know for sure. You may never be able to re-sell it as a Mach1, but don't let that stop you from restoring it as one!

I'm not sure but I think Cougar had a Cardinal Red. It may be the same color but they gave them different names and were both identified by Card Red. I'm not sure but a possibility.
