Please Help-Inner Tire Rod End Installation!

Hey Guys, got a 2004 GT, Alignment place wants me to get pass side inner tie rod end replaced before alignment and they wanted several hundred to do so. So I want to do it myself... Someone told me I would need some special tool or something, I am just really confused....My Guide book says NOTHING on the subject... Can SOMEONE please tell me where I can find a step by step guide on the subject somewhere on the net or maybe simply tell me what I have to do? Please help! I would greatly appreciate it!

1. securely support vehicle.
2. remove tire for the side you are working on
3. loosen jam nut for outer tie rod
4. remove outer tie rod from spindle
5. pull bellows off of inner tie rod (the uneducated call it a boot)
6. use inner tie rod tool to remove inner tie rod
7. reverse with new bellows if yours is damaged.
8. take to alignment shop and have then align.

im a truck alignment guy,i have done some cars and it should just unscrew from rack,,thier is a locking devise on the nut..,it could have a rivot or pened over ..look at you new one and it should come with instructions,,,their is no need to pull wheel or outer tie rod,,the inner is a ball style and spins internally,,

i just pull the outer to make it easier, especially since this guy probably does not have a lift to do it on.

pulling the outer will make it a lot easier. i do it this way even using a lift.

an innner tie rod tool will make this a lot easier. there are no locks, rivets or anything like that on a mustang tie rod.

a shop shouldnt charge more than an hour labor to do the job. it only takes about 15 min at most to do. try getting a guy to do it on the side and offer him $50 to install and align it. i know i'd take you yup on that offer

i swear, mustangs, aerostars and dodge dakotas are the easiest vehicles to do inner tie rods on.

you acutally can use a pipe wrench most of the time to get them off.

new rangers are the same way. you can do both sides in 15-20 min

i always used the inner tie rod tool just to make me feel better about spending the money to buy it, plus i always liked to torque them with a torque wrench.

working on a lift?

sorry but im anti-lift,,,worked 20yrs on my knees,,I also worked on trucks and tractors. not cars.anyone out here work on a gray-hound front end...30ton jack just starts to lift a wheel of the ground,thats good to know thier is no lock to strip threads when unscrewing...i did go thru my manual on this and it tells how to hold rack so that doesnt break,,, good luck
