My wife has a 96 gt, the intake cracked around the heater hose on the rear of intake. I installed a new oem intake as well as new plugs and wires. My problem is #2 cylinder is dead. it is missing and backfiring through the intake, when i unplug #2 plug wire or injector wire the backfiring stops and it does not change the way that it runs what so ever. she said it never overheated(never got out of the normal zone). i checked the compression and compression is good on all cylinders (145psi on cylinder 2) so i swaped the fuel injectors around with another cylinder and the same thing #2 is dead. you can hold the throttle down above 3600 rpm and the backfiring stops but it still has the misfire. so i took the manifold back off thinking the gasket did not seal, everthing was good head was good and clean and o-ring looked good so i torqued it back down to 18ftlbs and got everything back together and same thing. So i sprayed some throttle body cleaner around the seal on the intake and no changes. I also put the old spark plugs back in and same thing, no changes. The car ran good prior to the intake cracking, i am bumfuzzled i have checked all the vacuum lines and everything and still no luck. I also rechecked the firing order to make sure i did not get a plug wire crossed and voltage to fuel injector is 13.2v, i removed the plug and the plug is covered in carbon. the rest are clean but #2 is black. coil pack is also good, spark jumps over to bracket when plug wire is removed. Can someone please give me an idea what it could be?????? Thanks, Matt

the only thing I can think of is there may be something wrong with the coil pack. try swaping them and see if the problem follows over to the other cylinder.
you may have valvtrain issues also maybe one of the followers is messed up. IDK.

thanks all, my next test is to put old intake back on for a few mintues and see if the miss stops(may be problem with intake???) and maybe pull valve cover and check cam lobes and followers to see if problem is there
