Got on it a bit and next thing I know the motor shuts off. I found that the distributor does not turn when I crank it over. The gear on the shaft is ok. Please give me your input. Thanks

Most likely you're timing chain or one of the gears for the timing chain broke. Time to pull the front cover!

i guess the rotor turns when you turn the distributor gear? and if it is a broke timing chain or timing chain gear the heads will have to be removed to inspect for broke or bent valves, pushrods ect....

well that rules out a broke distributor shaft it more than likely what 95GTAODE
said a broke timing chain or timing chain gear i would do as he said and remove the cover and inspect then post. i don't know what i would do from there maybe replace timing chain and gears and run a compression test of each cylinder this will tell you condition of valves...

I got it a part and the timming chain is broke and the keyway slot on the balancer is missing a chunk. How do I get the small sprocket off the crank?? And what do I need to do to get the crank and cam in the right posistion to put the new chain on?? Thanks

cam the chain, just line up the two dots on each sprocket, as for getting the old lower sprocket off, i used piece of wood and hammer and kept whacking it alternating different sides, but the motor was out so might not work for you....i think u can use the 3claw type puller, like for a steering wheel or something

you can use a puller just make sure you install the crank bolt so you don't damage threads or you can use a prybar on each side of the gear and carefully pry the gear off the crankshaft...and as for timing line up the dots as 87stangdiddle said....

The crank has to be on TDC on the compression stroke so whats the best way to do that and the cam has to be in what position. Just lining up the dots will not work. Also what do you guys think about bent valves?? How likely do you think this happened? Thanks for the help guys

Ouch!! Definately check for bent valve's. It's almost a gaurenteed the you smoked one or two of 'em.

Also, be sure to use a quality double roller timing chain when you put it all back together. You don't want to cheap out and have this happen again!

its not good you probably have some bent valves. what all have you removed, you can install timing chain and run a compression check without timing chain cover or dist. installed.

Just the super charger, timming chain and headers. Most likely I will do a compression check first before I take the heads off, What should the compression read and how long should it hold for?
