THIS IS NOT A MUSTANG PROBLEM, BUT I REALLY NEED HELP. I HAVE A 95 FORD RANGER WITH A 4 CYLINDER. 8 PLUGS, 2 PER CYLINDER. ME AND MY GIRLFRIEND WAS TAKING A TRIP TO ATLANTA, AND BEFORE WE LEFT I PUT SOME LUCAS INJECTOR CLEANER IN IT, AND LIKE AN IDIOT I THEN FILLED IT UP WITH 93 OCTANE,(CAUSE IM USED TO MY 5.0) WELL WE DROVE FOR LIKE 1OO MILES THEN IT STARTED LIKE SURGING AND SPUTTERING, AND PUFFING A LIL SMOKE, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD FLASH LIKE IT WAS THROWING A MISFIRE CODE, THEN IT WOULD CLEAR UP FOR A LIL WHILE, THEN IT WOULD DO IT AGAIN. WELL WE PULLED OVER TO GET SOME GAS AND WHILE I WAS SLOWING IT DIED, I TRIED TO CRANK IT AND IT WOULD NOT FIRE. SO I PULLED THE PLUGS AND THEY WERE LIKE MELTED, SO WE TOWED IT HOME. I CHANGED THE PLUGS AND WIRES, STIULL NOTHING, SO THEN I CHANGED THE TIMING BELT CAUSE IT JUMPED TIMING A LIL BIT, STILL NOTHING, I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE INJECTORS TO OPENING, IF I SPRAY GAS IN THE INTAKE IT WILL CRANK, I CHECKED THE FUEL PUMP AND IT WORKS, AND I PUT A NEW FUEL FILTER ON IT, AND THE FUEL PRESSURE AT THE SCHRAEDER VALVE IS LIKE 41 POUNDS, BUT THERE IS NO POWER TO THE INJECTORS.......ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA.

I REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT ...

Could be a number of things. If you say that there is power at the fuel pump and at the fuel filter, but none at the injectors, then do you think you could possibly have something clogging your fuel line? My car did the same type thing a little while ago. You see, I added fuel sytstem cleaner and injector cleaner and the works right after I bought it to try to clean out the fuel line the best I could. Heh, sure enough my car started to sputter out and die all the time and would only crank over half the time. After letting it sit for a while (couple months) I just threw some regular old gas in there and it fired up and ran fine. I think that there may be a possibility that by putting that cleaner in there you loosened up a bunch of the crap that was in your fuel line and now you've clogged it. Could explain why your spark plugs were melted. Burning just air and spark, no fuel. Well, thats my two cents, hope it helps.

Other things you may want to check may include:

- Coil Wire
- 02 sensor
- Timing
- Pull for codes
- Put on scope to make sure you're getting spark

Hi,

I'm going to hazard wild guess here and say that you clogged your injectors. I could however, be way off.

I have learned to never use the 'fuel injector cleaner in a bottle' stuff. From my experience, if you do a full tune-up on the engine, and run whatever the manual recommends (In your case, 87 octane) you should be fine. Most quality fuels contain the proper mix of detergents to keep your fuel system quie clean by themselves. As to finding 'quality fuel', versus bad fuel, it's simple. If a gas station is always running brisk business, the chances are that their fuel is of good quality.

Every now and then a tank of 93 octane is ok, but suprisingly, the higher the octane number of the gas, the harder it is for the engine to use it. (Higher octane fuels have higher detonation points.) If you run a higher octane fuel than your engine was designed for, you will see a drop in performance, and a drop in your wallet as well.

A few suggestions to you on where to go from here are:

1) If you can get the truck driveable, go to a local AutoZone parts store. Go inside and ask them to run a free 'Check Engine' light analysis. They will pull any stored codes and give you the explanations that the computer is saying. If you can't get the truck driveable, then go try to borrow a code scanner. Buying one for '94 and up is expensive, due to the OBD-II computers used in all US models that year and after, but well worth it.

2) There is a Ford Ranger specific forum on the 'Net, and they have a dedicated 4-cylinder forum, which is quite active, and usually helpful. Try posting your problem there. You can find them at http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=22

Good luck!

In that case, I'd start with the simple stuff, and move to the more complex.

1) Are all you fuses and relays in good condition? Remember that in addition to the fuse block in the cab, there is also a power disribution box under the hood, which houses some more critical stuff.

2) Are your battery cables on tightly, no corrosion, no damaged cables/connectors?

3) With the assistance of a Chilton or Haynes manual (usually available at your local public library if you don't have one), a multimeter ($20 at Wal-Mart), some beers, and lots of patience and care, I'd then check the wiring between the injectors and wherever they end. Be careful of connectors, sometimes wires can seperate inside them, and not be obvious on sight. A multimeter can check this for you. (Infinite resistance would mean that there is a break somewhere in the system)

When checking the wiring, be especially careful to avoid any wires and connectors that are shrouded in bright yellow coverings. These are for your airbags, do not test them in any way, as you could cause the airbags to accidentally deploy, a posible dangerous, and definately expensive mistake.

Good luck!

 WELL BAD NEWS......I DID A COMPRESSION TEST ON IT TO JUST SEE. COMPRESSION ON ONE OF THE FOUR WAS 165, THE OTHER THREE WERE NOTHING.....SUCKS...BUT HEY I NEEDED SOMEWERE FOR THAT 302 H.O SITTING IN MY GARAGE THAT CAME OUT OF MY 93 TO GO.....I GUESS IT JUST FOUND A NEW HOME..

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP
