I am posting this in both the 4.6 forum and the Supercharger forum to get the most response.

I have a 1998 Mustang GT 5spd---100% STOCK

What I am trying to accomplish is between 300-350rwhp, and run 13s. This is what I have so far.

Vortech V-1 Strim supercharger 8-10lbs of boost.
Trickflow OR Accufab throttle body and plenum I have not decided yet
Lightning 90mm MAF, and 42lb injectors
PI Intake with livernois intake adapter
Bassani O/R X-pipe
Flowmaster Cat-back
190 or 255lph fuel pump
Anderson Motorsports Power Pipe
I know I need some blower cams that will fit into the NPI heads, any help with that?

Now does anybody see anything missing?

Does anybody know where to take the car in the KANSAS/MISSOURI area for a GREAT tune?

ANY OTHER helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!!!

Jared

I'd suggest Pi heads if your going that far already. I'd have recommended a complete PI swap before a blower even, from what I've seen at the local track. A guy with a modded NPI with a centrifugal blower, in a vert was running around 14.0. I don't think the NPI heads flow well enough to make a full use of a blower.

Good advice unless your planning on a s/c. Just have the NPI's ported or look around for another set of NPI heads [cheap] and get them ported, that way you can just swap the ported heads on while it's apart and you don't have as much down time and just resell yours. The bump in compression that you'll get from the PI headswap will raise the compression a little too high for a S/C unless you run really low boost or get lower compression pistons.

+1.. a ported set of NPI heads will easily out flow the stock PI castings, so it's a no brainer to go this way for you.

So basically just P&p the npi heads and I should be fine? I know the copmpression ratio goes up to 9.4 with the pi heads, but the guy at Patriot performance said that the more ported the heads the lower the compression ratio will be. A full port would knock it down to 9.1, and a portmatched port would knowck it down to 9.3. With the larger then life injectors, this would seem like the best way to go.

But port matched npi heads would be ALOT easier on the wallet, and still make good power.

CAMS...WHAT ABOUT CAMS???

what if I use a 01+ shortblock...will that help at all?
Nope, the main difference in the PI engine and the Non-PI are the intake, heads/cams, pistons and COPP vs coil paks. The pistons on the Non-Pi have a slightly higher dome than the PI so when you swap heads, the compression also goes up to around 10:1 .
As far as cams, you can go PI or aftermarket. VT1's are good but if you go VT2', you'll need to change springs too.

There is a place in KC that specializes in Mustang,SuperTune Performance...its off of 162nd and Metcalf. Where do you live in Kansas, I'm from Abilene and soon to be in Lawrence

See sig...all motor. :D

Hey, I'm a kansas guy myself. I live in lawrence.
I would certainly hope you are shooting for low 13s with 8-10psi. My bone stock 97GT ran a 14.6 at heartland park earlier this year... with a paper filter and all. Put on some descent tires on your combo, and shoot for 12's. :D
As for a place to get the car tuned? I would check out MC racing, off Merriam.
We specialize in forced induction tuning on Fords, GM, or any stand-alone system

Once I get my turbo4 running right again, I'll probably go up there to turn some rollers a time or 2 before going standalone.

That is VERY good to see, I will probably use them. I should expect to pay 400-500 for a good tune right?

On a 100 degree night at heartland I mad a best 15.5 pass, but that was with a FULL weight car, paper filter, and it was the first time at the track with the car, so I expect I could get another .5 off that with just more experience. And removing things like the spare and jack, and maybe taking a bag of ice out there with me.

The NPI cars aren't as bad as many try to make them out to be. Mod for mod the PI will be a little quicker but only by a few tenths. Had a bud running high 11's on 9-12 Lbs of boost in his cammed PI'd 98. The NPI car with the same mods would only be a tick or 2 behind.

I agree with this if you already have the PI intake and cams but not if your trying to compete with a PI without them.

I still have some ET left...see trap speed. When the weather gets good again I'll beat you.:D

With some new pullies and shorties I'm shooting for high 12's.
I've never had much luck with just adding shorties or pulleys on the our cars, as they really don't seem to do much. Both together I think you might drop a tenth or two [maybe...] but I can't see it getting you into the 12's.
