Currently just got the automatic transmission rebuilt for my 1990 mustang GT. After the rebuild the car now stalls when coming to a stop or put into park. I tried cleaning the mass air flow sensor and throttle body and still no luck.

I'd perform the idle reset procedure. If you search, it's been discussed many many times

Do auto trans cars have a Vehicle Speed Sensor? If so, Id be money that it didn't get hooked back up.

You guys with idle/stall problems could save a lot of time chasing your tails if you would go through the Surging Idle Checklist. Over 50 different people contributed information to it. The first two posts have all the fixes, and steps through the how to find and fix your idle problems without spending a lot of time and money. It includes how to dump the computer codes quickly and simply as one of the first steps. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions. You can post questions to that sticky and have your name and idle problem recognized. The guys with original problems and fixes get their posts added to the main fix.

It's free, I don't get anything for the use of it except knowing I helped a fellow Mustang enthusiast with his car. At last check, it had more than 200,000 hits, which indicates it does help fix idle problems quickly and inexpensively.

89+ all do.

86-88 only do if you have cruise control.

Ah. Would you agree that's a likely culprit after reinstalling a trans?

Well, I would defer to my standard "Run the codes" response to that. If it is the VSS, there would be a code generated that would indicate such.

Back when I had an AOD, I used to run into this issue all the time where the trans would stall going into gear. I'd fix the issue by running through the throttle reset procedure.

Could be a different tq converter that puts different load on the engine when he shifts to gear. I'd start with simple stuff before we start diving deeper into what-ifs'. Throttle reset procedure, plus run the codes
