Plug Wires

My '96 GT has the original blue spark plug wires on it that say "1996" on them... The car has 73k orig miles and runs fairly good and idles smooth. I'm going to change the plugs soon to some iridium/platinums, should i change the plug wires at the same time? Or are the original wires fine? How long do plug wires usually last and perform at optimum level? And if i'm changing my plugs to iridiums, etc., will i need better performance wires?

To tell you the truth, I upraded to ford racing sp wires with good sp plugs. The difference to me is that it just starts faster. It's not really necessary to upgrade them, but its cool to do it. Looks better as well.

I need new ones also. My replacement Rosch wire are having issues. The Bosch wires have been recommended.

You have 11 year old wires. It's probably a good time to replace them.

stay with msd or motorcraft wire, go with motorcraft plug or autolite or ngk for plug, myself i ran motorcraft plug and wire.

i noticed a difference when i changed out my SP's and SPW's at the same time (cleaner acceleration), but thats because i needed it. I went FRPP red wires but i hear people have problems with them in hot climates

Hmm so should i go with MSD or Ford Racing wires?

I would stay away with MSD stuff, most (not all) of their components have been known to not run right with the 4.6

Don't ever buy the Livewires. I got these for Christmas...and once they are snapped on, they are on forever. I tried to get two of them back off the same night to reposition them...and the wire ripped out of the boot. I used dielectric grease too. GARBAGE!! The problem is the boot is a multi peice and the Ford original is a solid piece. I would recommend the Ford Racing wires, hopefully those are high quality like the originals.

if you get ford wires you can also ask for blue ones for the same price.. i found this out after the fact and i have poopy black wires...

If you feel the need to replace them now and have a little cash go ahead, they will eventually crap out on you. I got some blue Ford Racing wires tho.
