plugging smog holes..

um i think this is tech...

when taking of the smog tupe from the back of the heads.. can somone tell me whet size/type thread/length the bolts should be going in? thats the last thing i havta finish.

from what i've heard they are 5/8"-11 (tpi) x 3/4". i could only find 1", gonna try tomorrow but ill let u know how it works

you need to use 2- 9/16" x 1 in. NC grade 5 bolts and 6 washers for these bolts....use 3 washers on each bolt and tighten into smog tube holes at the back of heads thats what i did,worked great.

they're 5/8-11. Trick Flow sells them as part # TFS-51400265, or you could use bolts like somebody already suggested.

my ford dealer had them in stock. i think they where like 5.00 for the pair. there the right ones for the holes, plus there threaded i the inside of the plug for some reason

my bolts are 2 3/4 inch long from teh head and liek a 1/4 inch wide ( im not good with bolt sizes) and a caurse thread.

just did this about an hour ago. that picture above (red88 RICK's) is the bolt that holds the tubing onto the heads, which is not the same as the bolt you need to plug the actual hole.
well i managed to get them in, 5/8-11 x 1", but they stick out a long ways. went in pretty tough though, i'm actually a little worrried i may have cross threaded them. i doubt it, but theres a chance. i have a feeling all the carbon build up in there may have something to do with it. anyways, definitely not the easiest place to turn a wrench so it'll have to do for now!

wow mine musta have been realy clogged up them i didnt even noticed there where threads in there ha i thought the question was whats the bolt size for the tube cause what i was going to do is bolt up the tube and crimp and weld the end.

yeah if u took those 2 bolts out u had in the pic, just yank on the tubing and it should all come right off. mine was kinda stuck on with the gasket sealer. Behind the little blocks on the tubing will be much larger threaded holes that can be plugged. just hope i used the right bolts cuz they were pretty snug and tough to get started..... oh well. need new heads soon anyways. !!!

I called the dealership. They said they have a "reducer" available. from how the guy described it, it fits into the hole and bring it down to a smaller thread size, then you use a normal size bolt to plug it. I'm not sure why you need this. I am going to do this delete tonight and i was just going to use the size bolts that everyone recommends.
For everyones information the part number from Ford is: F4ZZ-6E086-A. He said they were $26!

thanx for the reply, i just did the delete last week when i changed my top end. i found an old bolt and made a couple of plugs with it, sealed em up with some copper rtv. works great, costs nothing.

cut the tube off the base, and install them backwards, its a cheap way to block off the holes.

aren't spark plug threads 14 mm X 1.25 metric threads.

I got mine at napa, they were called thermactor plugs, threaded plug that has screws outside and in, sealed it with thread sealer with teflon. If I ever get this engine and transmission in I'll let you know how they work but that is what they are meant for.

those work, ive used about 15 of them, best little trick out there, and they were fairly cheap, only cost me a few bucks
