plz. explain timming advance/retard

can some one plz explain to me the point of adavancing timing or retarding timeing to get horsepower ??

why is timing retarded on nitrous and blower motors and advanced on na motors ??

when the piston rises, it creates pressure in the cylinder. you want to build as much pressure as possible without the pressure causing the fuel to ignite before the spark plug does. (high-octane gas resists this premature igniting) superchargers and nitrous greatly increase cylinder pressure, so if you do not retard the timing, the gas will ignite before you want it to.
