Police are getting new license plate recognition technology - Video inside

The City of Philadelphia has had a system like that for several years. They have a van that scans the plates when they drive down the streets...They are looking for peope who don't pay parking tickets etc. If you are caught they put a boot on your wheel so you can't drive until you paid your fines.

"When they took the Fourth Amendment, I was silent because I don’t deal drugs. When they took the Sixth Amendment, I kept quiet because I know I’m innocent. When they took the Second Amendment, I said nothing because I don’t own a gun. Now they’ve come for the First Amendment, and I can’t say anything at all."
- Tim Freeman

Hopefully one day all you innocent people aren't sorry when it's too late.
Your rights are being taken away, thanks Bush.

Ever hear of Habias Corpus?
Well our kids will read about in the history books, look it up.

If you think they will just be nice guys and stop with uninsured people, get real.
It's purely a stepping stone, they'll get you to say this is fine, then they work more and more into the system.

Who took away Habias Corpus then?

And if you support Bush I see who the moron is.

first off, its spelled Habeas corpus.

second, non-U.S. citizens and POWs do not have the same rights as you and I :)

third, according to the Geneva Conventions, prisoners (even legitimate POWs) may be held for the duration of hostilities without trials.

Yep, and once they label you a terrotist (Patriot Act) which they can do.
Then this applies.

Oh yeah, it was part of our Constitution.

This procedure, part of English common law, was considered important enough to be specifically mentioned in the United States Constitution, which says, "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it." (Article One, section nine).

I guess that doesn't really matter though huh.

Do you want the whole list or just the top 10?

Yes, please post the whole list...I need a laugh! And please, don't say something like "they can tap your phone lines". If you do have some legitimate list of how our government is controlling our lives, I'd appreciate you explaining to me how it has personally affected YOU, not a would be terrorist or illegal person.

And since when is the police department considered the government?

And what intentions would that be?

We all want to end terrorism, yet we exect the govenment to take a blind eye to everybody? I think people really confuse the word "freedom" as being anonymous. If you don't let the government at least investigate potential terrorists in this country by secret methods, then how are you going to ever catch them?

I know this could on and on, and everyone has their view.
So I won't go on and on.

This is just one more item with the intentions in mind (full government control)
When I lose my civil rights in the name of fighting terrorism, then that to me that's not freedom. And since the government defines terrorism, which is becoming a blanket term, scary.

FYI...from Wikipedia

In common law countries, habeas corpus (/'heɪbiəs 'kɔɹpəs/), Latin for "you [should] have the body", is the name of a legal action or writ by means of which detainees can seek relief from unlawful imprisonment. But habeas corpus has a much broader meaning in common law today. A writ of habeas corpus is a court order addressed to a prison official (or other custodian) ordering that a prisoner be brought before the court for determination of whether that person is serving a lawful sentence and/or whether he or she should be released from custody. The writ of habeas corpus in common law countries is an important instrument for the safeguarding of individual freedom against arbitrary state action.

Habeas corpus can also mean that the imprisoning authority of an alleged murderer 'should have the body' to prove that there has indeed been a murder at all, but this usage is rare.

If I never post again after this, you'll know why.

I still don't know what of YOUR civil rights you have lost?

Hopefully terrorism will one day be a thing of the past, then we won't have to worry about things like that. Talk about being optomistic! Honestly, I really think after 9-11, we can never go back to the way we lived before. We were niave as a country to think this stuff can never happen here. Now only 5 years after 9-11 we want to go back to minding our own buisness? You think it's a blanket term...how close were you to NYC that day? Have you set foot on ground zero? I guess we should not offend Mohammed at the airport because he fits the profile of a terrorst. Better not ask him for identification because he may cry that his civil liberties are at stake. After all, what's he got to hide?

You're exactly right. We were wrong in the way we treated our detainees... We should have cut their heads off and posted a video of it on the internet for the whole world to see. Where's your list?

Well at least we still can have this conversation.
We still have that freedom, I'm never opposed to hearing others views.

Oh, and Merry Christmas.
Can we say that this year? ... on to religion. JK

You want to know how it's affected me? It's not about ME. It's not about YOU. It'a about EVERYONE and how we live together...communicate with each other...and how we govern ourselves.

Last time I checked, the police department was not a part of the private sector.

Very true...that's what this country is all about. :flag:

I'm pretty bummed out, I just found out that there's no Santa Claus. My parents LIED to me all these years....or was it Bush?

Merry Christmas to you as well!
