Check out Caswell or Eastwood for some polishing stuff. Basically remove any coating on the rims, start sanding, then sand some more, and more, and even more, then keep sanding, your almost done sanding, now your done so you get some tripoli compound and a buffing wheel, hit it with that to remove the scratches, then get some white rouge and a different buffing wheel and go over it again with that to bring out the shine. Using some Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish at the end will really clean it up. It is a lot of work and takes some time to get used to and make things look like chrome. The sand paper you'll need is 80, 100, 180, 220, 320, and finally 400. Since you dont really care about your tribars and are using them as winter wheels, they will be a good place to practice polishing on. Once you do thoes you'll want to do other parts of the car we well... Its a sickness

Dont waste your time if theyre just for the winter..
The salt and snow will only dull them anyway.
