Over time, my wipers left a long arcing scratch on the passenger side of my windshield. Is there any way to polish these out without spending a ton? Its more of a nuisance than a problem (since I rarely sit in the passenger seat), but it'd be nice if I could get rid of it. Thanks

Well guys, I may not be expert at much around here, but I can answer this question.

I have spent 26 years in the glass industry.

Essentially, if you can feel it with your finger nail or credit card, you can not polish it out with out serious distortion to the glass.

If it is annoying now, when there is distortion will it be even more annoying?

If not, get out your rubbing compound, and power buffer, and go to town. Just like with your paint, you will want to work to a finner and finer polish until it ( the scratch) is gone.

Just remember that the area you polish will be somewhat distorted.

Hope it helps.

Good post, and since we have an expert here:

You were referring to removing deep scratches that you can feel, how about the scenario that my winshield has, 100s (if not 1000's) of small scraches- the kind that catch your eye at night in the lights. They are fine and can't be felt so would the effort needed to remove those distort my view as well?

the guy who comes to my shop doing the stone chip repair work says mothers mag wheel polish works wonders... use it with a buffing wheel as you would stainless trim. ive not tried it yet, as i have more pressing matters at hand, but i should get around to it soon (ill let everyone know if it is worth the trouble)
