POLL: New GTO

The car is well built because Sun Pontiac has one. On par with other high end models. Cons to the car are - Price $34000.00 for 350hp in a 3800lb car. Identity is confusing with most other GM models. I like the car for the quality and interior but the looks and mark up in price is what I don't like. Its a damn shame quality like that can't be made here. Hopefully the new Stang will have this.

Make the exterior cabin a little smaller, add more distinct C qtr panels, and longer hood == 94-98 stang with 350HP and IRS and a interior/drivetrain that the SN95's should've had... GM has finally learned why the stang is so successful--so why not closely recreate it (no frills, good power, basic styling). Problem is the SN95 is old news and it's now retro time...

It's a hair bigger than the '05 GT (with a larger wheel base). Problem is I wonder where the heck the weight is located... Luckily, the 05 GT specs say it should beat this thing in almost every measure (except styling--that's subjective )

I would imagine performance numbers would be pretty comparable. The power and IRS of the GTO being offset by the mustangs 300 lb weight advantage.

The other day one stepped on it next to me on the highway while I was in my 89 Accord and it didn't impress me! I thought it would have been a lot quicker

it's not pretty, but it's not ugly either. it's kinda europen, which is just odd for a "muscle car". gm killed off olds too early, the gto fills the niche that the olds 4-4-2 did, and i think this'd be a helluva way to bring them back

FYI....GM owns Holden, why do you think they are still using the LS1 in many of their cars. So indirectly GM did design it.

I know what you mean....like I said though...."In GM's eyes" it's a modern interpretation. That means that "We ripped it off from Holden (though they own Holden) because it sold well" and "will temporarily take the place of the F-Body/RWD platform". I liked the concept (the silver one) much better than the production....at least it had a *tad* more identity than the production version.

Also....the best time I've seen so far is 13.97 at 100.16mph. That's for the A4 and the 60' time was 2.075.....which isn't too bad....but the car only had 1400 miles on it. LS1's usually trap a little higher the more miles that go on them....as they "break in".

I guess this is as good a place to start posting as any other.

"Uninspired" is a great word, Lazy is another good one. I think you can use those two words to describe the C6 as well.

The "GTO" deserves better. I can't figure out why GM wouldn't wait and do it right. I mean, why introduce this model then say, "Wait till the second gen...it will silence the critics".

Oh and 35 grand is CRAZY talk.

I for one, really like the new GTO...IMO GM is right when they say that the 2004 is a modern interpretation of what the original goat would have evolved into had it not bit the bullet back in 74'.

The price is rather steep though 33K+a big dealer mark-up (which is inevitable)

Although if I had the money to buy a car today I would seriously consider the GTO, IMO its a better buy than a 2004 Mustang GT, but as far as performance, Mach 1/Cobra it is NOT.

For you that simply dont like the styling wait till 05' when they do a nice little redesign, and possibly a new higher performance model with the 400+ HP LS-2/LS-6.

I'm just glad GM is offering a V-8 rwd car other than the 'vette... ...I can't wait till the comparison tests between it and the 05' Mustang

I have seen this car in person and been inside. Its a very nice car and seems like its got some good power. I like it, but I don't like it as a GTO, I like it as a fast Grand Prix.

Yeah yeah yeah.....I'm as axcited as the next guy about the LS-6 possibility in the GTO....but I'm with Distortion9.....coming out with a car and then telling people to wait for the next generation of it (after they've been waiting for 25 years!) is completely assinine.

Go check out the Holden site from Australia, they also make a Holden with a 427 all aluminum v-8 power. That's what GM needs to bring here. They probably wont though if sales aren't good enough. The big price tag on the GTO is a dissapointment, because that's what is going to hamper sales. If it was about 29,000 30,000 ish so it could compete with the Mustang at least.

when you're spending $30K+ on a car....the difference between $30K and $32,495 is negligible.

The Aussies have much more impressive muscle cars than the US will be seeing. Why? Because federal regulations make it awefully hard to squeeze big motors into cars anymore. Power comes at a price here.

The new GTO has more of a European car presence about it. I think its looks nice and has nice power and features, but its pricey. Do I think it lives up to the GTO name? NO! They should something a little closer to what the GTO was. This is just an grand prix on steriods.

I love it it has independet suspension and more than enough power to take care of business. A lot of people complain about the weight but consider this astralia has very bad roads. If a us spec car was taken to astralia it would be beaten to pieces. I like it being over built so mabey it won't creak and rattle by the time it is paid off unlike most american cars. Most roads where it frezes suck because of patches and potholes.
