I need better tires this year.. All season 225 Michelin Pilots aren't cutting it at the track. To keep cost down, I am thinking aout a pair of 255/50 16 M/T ET Street Radial. 7" is listed as an approved width, but does anyone have experience with these tires on pony's?
Yes those will fit on pony rims but in my opinion if you want a tire thats going to hook at the track don't buy those. Get some MT ET streets. They are DOT approved so can be driven on the road (i wouldnt drive them in the rain though) and go to the track and cut yourself some 1.6 and 1.7 60 ft times. I bought a set and went from a 2.2 60' to a 1.8 60' which cut my ET from a 14.0 to a 13.3. Thats .4 in the 60' and .7 in the 1320. All for about 320 dollars. Best bang for my buck ever. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

For now, the ET Streets aren't what I want to do. At the moment, I don't want to buy another pair of wheels and tires and I need something to drive on the street. Plus the strain of ET Street Radials will be bad enough on my stock T5 and rear end...I can't imagine the ugliness with ET Streets.
The Mickey T drag radial is nice. As far as track duty they do there job great I never drove mine in the rain since my car didn't come out when it was raining, so can't say how they behave on that. If they are anythign like Nitto's then you are OK. I ran Nitto's for a long time until trying the Mickeys.
Had a set off 255's installed on a set of (OEM) chrome Ponies I sold to a buddy, when I swapped to the 5 lug & 17's. On his blown 93 vert they were good for 10.80's and drove them to the track.(65 miles each way) Here is a picture of the 255's on the 16x7 Pony...
