I heard that the battery didn't even need to be in the car. From what i heard, some cars need it in there just to complete the curcuit but mustangs aren't one of them

the battery supplies the initial voltage to turn the starter to start the car

I thought engaging the clutch got the motor to spin, basically bypassing the starter?

As for the battery being there, that explains my friends battery exploding as we tried to pop start his 5.0 back in the day. Funny thing is that his brother was the one telling me that the battery didn't even need to be there.

I had my starter quit on me one time in a parking lot, I pushed the car myself jumped in and put it in gear real quick and let the clutch out and was on my way. I couldnt have been going but 2 MPH by the time I jumped in. Another reason to hate Automatic Tranny cars!

I can pop-start my mustang with ease with hardly any speed. My old tbird was hard to get it to do it, you would have to be going kind of fast to get it to start.

The gray TFI in Stangs is a "push start" TFI. You need some voltage in the system to get the voltage regulator in the alternator to "turn on".
