Popping out of second?

Well i had a brand new king cobra clutch installed and everything adjusted and whenever i seem to drive in second it wants to pop out of gear. I'll have it in gear and be driving for maybe 1/4 of a mile or so and it just pops out. I was wondering what this may be, if something is wrong or what. Ohh and unfortunatly i still have the stock shifter, soon to get pro 5.0, so i can take the hard time finding third due to the stock shifter. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you may have a bent shift fork, which is not allowing it to go all the way into second. Or more likely some bad syncros. Either way, the trans will have to come out of the car. Does it pop out when you let off, or when you get on it, or whenever it feels like it?

I had the same problem with my car, it was a broken shift fork which in turn damaged the syncros. The tranny is gonna need to come out, id do it soon if you can too so you dont end up having to get new syncros like I did.

Keep in mind, the synchros are made up of a number of components.

There are the sliders, the blocker rings and then the dog teeth of the gears. The blocker rings are the cheap parts, usually $10-20 a ring. It's the slider and the gears that are expensive. $85 each.

I rebuilt a t-5 that has a bad 2nd gear synchro. It would grind every time and pop out of gear. It was bad. I had to replace the 1-2 synchro slider, 2nd gear and the blocking rings. I lucked out and scored some good used parts and did it all for undr $100.

Just make sure you check the dog teeth on the 2nd gear. If they round over, the tranny will pop out of gear (assiming the fork isn't bent allowing it to shift all the way in). If the teeth are chewed up, most likely the slider is too requiring you to replace both.

Well it dosen't pop out when i get off it, or get on the gas, it just kinda does it as it pleases. I may drive 2 miles and than it will pop out, or i may drive 30 feet on it. hoping its not a bent shift fork, i bought the car the other day being told it had a rebuilt tranny. Its not the car in the sig, but i even had it taken to a ford dealership mechanic and he said everything checked out. So i don't know.

Also, i am guessing i can attribute the hard time finding third to the stock shifter. i'm really hoping its not anything to do with the tranny since i did buy it with rebuilt trans, but if so guess hows getting to pay for the repairs.

Your gonna have to get your tranny rebuilt. That's pretty much all you can do. Sorry.

My car used to pop out of first as soon as I would leave from a dead stop. About a month later I lost every gear except 4th. Drive your car easy for a while untill you get some cash to rebuild your T-5 or buy a Tremec.
