Welcome to the boards. As far as mods go you may whant to think agout adding gears (3.73) first. Then heads the best right now for street stangs are the AFR 165 heads they are also the most $$, Edelbrock performer heads work very well to. As far as headers go bbk long tubes are pretty popular as are the Mac's.

I think that sticking with for racing is the best route. Gears are definetly a good thing, i have 3:73s and they tear **** up. The GT40 heads and maybe a cobra intake would work well, get some power, not cost too much. I have Mac shorty headers and they work well, maybe an MSD ignition. Good luck.

STOP if that chrome cover is a fms cover I think you can not use 3.73 with that cover you may want to find out before you buy the gears.

I don't know if they rub or not I just looked at my Texas Mustang mag. and under the fms chrome diff cover it says can not use 3.73, 4.10, 4.30. Just call ford racing and ask. Or just do the gears and try the cover and if it doesn't fit like you sad sell it. The gears check out www.gefracing.com they have good prices.

Running a stock intake on new heads and headers will limit power. Get an intake too!

i got ported stock heads (thumper) and a trick flow street heat upper/lower intake. i am staying with the stock cam. i have heard good things about the heads and the price is right for what i can afford at this time. it is in the shop right now getting installed, so i don't have anything to report about it, but i am confident it will keep me happy for a while. i figure in a few years, when i have saved enough money to get the 347 stroker that is on my wish list, i can keep the intake and upgrade the heads.

Gears are the best first mod! www.buyfordmotorsport.com has good prices. I didn't see if you had a stick or auto. If you have the manual tranny get a good shifter with end stops before you damage your shift forks. If you have the auto you are going to need to get a chip to correct the shift points to compensate for the new gears. Another good early mod is underdrive pulleys.

yeah i agree gears give a good sotp difference, but if it is a daily driver go with 3.73s max. imo 4.10s are too steep for the everyday use. 4.10s are good on the track and maybe for an auto, but for a daily driven manual, first and second will just barely get you going and you'll be in 3rd before you are at any kind of cruising speed.

i heard with pre-96 cars a chip was not necessary on automatic cars with gears

If you have an auto definately go with 4.10s. Also you should fell a good gain with a different stall and a shift kit should make driving a lil more fun. If your going to rebuild the ingine i would make it either a 331 or 347 stroker with some nice forged internals if you have the funds. A 351w would also be a nice upgrade.
