well my motor is going back together soon.. pretty much just needs the upper and lower intakes put on..

but before i do so, what kind of gains would i see if i were to take my stock intakes and have a mild port and polish job done to them before i put them on??

and if i did this what would be a reasonable price to pay?

88 gt by the way with just a few bolt ons

PM tmoss. He is the intake port guru in this forum, he can hook you up.

ditto - tmoss; he'll port the lower for you - the upper isn't the bottleneck. To do it properly, weld metal needs to be added to the inside radius of the #1 and #5 runners before they're opened up.

Actually Mike, I've developed a method over the last two years of porting the stock intake without welding the front runners and not sacrificing flow. It requires more work in the upper portion of the runners, but I have recently switched to doing it this way only. My previous intakes had very minimal welding anyway. Now they look totaly stock when finished.

Contact Vortexautomotive@aol.com or go to www.vortex-mfg.com! They do some awsome CNC porting of stock 5.0 intakes and they only charge about $300-$350 to fully port and Powder coat an intake to any color of your likeing!!!

Thanks Tom - I've not been paying close enough attention perhaps. Can you do the GT40 lowers the same way?

alright so are you guys saying. id be fine to just let the upper alone and port the bottom out? or are there more advantages to doing both?

also you guys are reading off all these different numbers as far as how much to open them up.. and i dont want to sound dumb but how exactly would i want them done with a basically stock motor??

and before i do anything id like to check out a few local places and see what kind of prices theyd give me.. what would you guys say a good price would be?

Yes - do the lower only.

Mike, I never have welded on the Cobra lowers and now I don't the stockers either. You've seen results from both.
