Possible new car if the price is right

Hey guys I finally went to see the car and got some pics. It was nice and not so nice at the same time. Honestly I am not sure what I should spend on the car. hopefully by the pictures you guys can help me out.

So here are a few problems. No carpet, Fuel gauge doesn't work, a little rust (not on frames or floor pans) broken drivers seat "gangster lean", faded paint but its not a big deal I plan on painting it white or grey. The last issue he never switched the title into his name so how would I title it if I buy it from him? would I just go to the MVA and change it like any other car even know the name on the title is a different person then the seller?

so what do you guys think. for $1000 it seems good?

Body looks to be in good shape. I paid for 1,000 for my 88 5 speed convert and it had some issues - top was bad - power windows MIA, etc. I also bought my '93 Notch with the 5 speed for 1,100 in January 2006. low rust and needed a few things.

I would say the 1,000 is fair price if it runs good and such. The fuel gauge issue could be the the anti-slosh card on the instrument clust going bad. it's fairly common and an easy fix.

Finding a notch 5 speed is getting harder to acquire and this one looks to be in decent shape - most of your issues are easy fixes.

as for the title....not sure which state you are in, but if the previous owner to him just signed it and didn't put his name on the title, then you can just take the title and put your name on the purchaser line and no one would be the wiser. If they wrote his name in, then most likely you would at minimum have to get a notorized letter stating that you bought the car from the guy on the title. Usually your states motor vehichle's department can tell you what you need to do over the phone.

He needs to register the car before you can buy it. He isn't a dealer, so he cannot resign the title to you using the other reassignments, as they are dealer only. Don't give him a dime until he can produce a good title.

I think I may try and offer $900 not to be an ass but his ad. on craigslist didn't say its fuel gauge wasn't working and that the seat was broken/no carpet. or maybe $800 and will give him an old car subwoofer and box.

Well I got the cash to buy it now. If the VIN is clear I will be picking it up tomorrow and driving it home about 60 miles. and then the work starts haha. Total detail and clean down. and probably wet sand the paint.

Im totally pumped to own my first mustang!!! and I know a lot of people who are looking forward to helping me work on it. I am going to get historic tags and insurance because I have another vehicle as my daily driver and this will just be for the weekends and for fun.

I hope you got it for $800. More is too much for that car in that condition and no title IMO.....out here in CA, anyway. Local markets vary a lot and I don't know what fetches how much wherever you are.

I don't even go to look at vehicles that don't have titles, actually. Well, I might if they're being practically given away. Lapsed registration is a big turn-off of mine as well because that usually means the buyer gets to pay it and the seller isn't going to be honest about how big the fees are.

so I just asked. He has the title its in his name he just never registered it because he only wanted the trans out of it. I am pretty sure the fuel gauge works also. and I plan on selling a lot of the parts that come with it to make some money back.

That changes things a bit, then.

That car would look good in Oxford White. I'm a bit partial, though, since white is my color of choice for cars...EXCEPT '84-85 SVOs like I have. Luckily mine is black.

I know about that haha, I have a white 2002 chevy suburban and before that had a white VW beetle (this is my family not me since I am only 17) and then have a black 2005 honda pilot, and for my mom a sky blue vw beetle convertible (girls car)

I may try a midnight blue maybe but white does look good too. I guess I could always do some racing stripes and go white body blue stripes. who knows

One nice thing about white is that it hides a multitude of body and paint flaws.

Wimbledon White with blue Shelby stripes is what I put on my first '65 Mustang. My '68 is likely going to get Wimbledon White with black Super Snake stripes.

I would call it a 20-footer back then. PM 65 owns it now(in Austria...funny story behind that) and redid all the body and paint work so it looks pretty sweet.

I miss that car.

Thinking about a yellow stripe down the middle - or maybe a dual one

The seats are ALWAYS broken in Fox stangs...I don't know why.

I replaced the originals in mine with nice ones from a GT and they still ended up doing that.

You might look for ones from a Thunderbird, they seemed to be built better (at least in my turbo coupe they were) but you may not find the color to match your interior.

If that is actually primer and not a flat color coat, then I would suggest covering it with a color coat. Primer doesn't seal out moisture and eventually rust will start coming through. Flat colors in general don't seal as well as those with more gloss.

Yep. it's an etching primer, and agree it'll hold water....but in the summer down here in S. Florida the sun dries it really quick... plan on squirting the car blue or green in a month or so, haven't decided on the color....was an original teal green car - just not sure if I want that color back just yet. Got it covered to stop the surface rust on the roof and get it one color for now. have a few dents and dings to fix too....not too bad.

Possible new car if the price is right
