possible to pull oil pan without pulling motor?????

Ok i have been having issues, so i decided i would try and check out some stuff


Oil level sender
Oil sump (see if its clogged0)


I was just gonna go ahead and replace the oil pump while i was at it, but no matter what i do i can't seem to get the pan off. I am wondering if there is any possible way to pull the pan w/o having to pull the entire motor(if i go that far it will be motorless while i finish the other one) so that i could just replace the oil pump, and the pickup etc.... I currently have the motor raised high enough to put the bell against the firewall, and i still cant get the pan out.


help guys let me know if this is even possible before i keep fighting it.

engine won't go any higher....., i have it raised to where it is hitting the firewall......


Can you unbolt the bellhousing, and the mounts, upper intake etc. and remove the engine w/o too much trouble...

I've pulled many many motors but not one out of a 94-95 Stang.

however

It seems to me if you're gonna go to that much trouble ......

Just pull the motor and trans out together as one unit.

Again, I may be outta line here so maybe others will get involved

It's probably a good 3-5 hours to get the engine out, maybe less since the 5.0 is smaller physically than a 4.6 (the experience I have with pulling an engine from an SN). I was able to pull that with the AODE still attached, so it shouldn't be too bad on yours.
OT, I see you're from Dothan... I met a couple chicks from down there on spring break. One of my best friends used to live in Daleville, and knew them from school. Good times partying down there.

yeah i used to do the spring break thing, till i started realizing how much money i had spent in panama city.....Then i decided to go to cancun one year, it was worse....lol

good times good times....but i am married now, so there isn't spring break by myself although she will go with me and do just about whatever i do.....


anyhow, i am trying to borrow my buddies lift, i will just unbol the bell, and the exhaust, throttle cable, and headers(need to replace the gaskets anyhow) and then pull it....


will the motor come out with the headers still attached...

lol... Panama City was awesome for spring break. I must've spent at least a grand in alcohol over the course of 10 days there. The drive from Chicagoland sucked though... 14 hours in my friend's Tiburon, with those steel folding chair like seats was painful after a while.

I really don't know if it'll come out headers attached, but the 4.6 I yanked did. They're not as wide as the engine, so I'd think they would, but you might run into some interference with the steering shaft or something, picturing my engine bay from memory.

just unbolt the 4 bell housing bolts and pull the motor, just take the upper off and you can have it out quick. Start to finish for me, I can have the motor out in a little under 2 hours. Which isn't too bad, and thats will taking the accessories off. So just pull it up high enough, not all the way out.

I just removed the pan without pulling the engine or trans. I removed all the oil pan bolts and dropped the pan so it rest on the cross member. With the engine raised as much as possible, unbolt the oil pump and sump. Let them fall into the pan. With a llttle twisting the pan came out.

the sump is bolted to the main caps in one spot though,.........did you undo it as well...

I did unbolt the sump as well. I would give it a shot before pulling the engine.

A buddy of mine did my oil pan for me without yanking out the motor. I was not there so I dont know exactly how he did it.

I have done this. Hardest part was bolting the oil pump back on because you can't see anything, if your laying on you back your doing everything by feel with a hand reaching in on both sides of oil pan.

Use a 1 piece gasket ( I think it was felpro) It comes with tabs that go into block until you get the pan aligned and in place then remove the tabs and replace w/ bolts. Worked great

as ddr said get a 1piece gasket if your not gonna pull the motor

ok guys i got the oil pump off, i am curious as to what would make it lose pressure, so i dissasembled it, and found some deep score marks inside,, take a look, could this be causing low pressure?
