Potentially stupid questions about engines.

289 and 302 are good Ford engines. 305 is a chevy engine. The bore and stroke are caluclated to make cubic inches. For example, 302 has 4" bore and 3" stroke. So 4" x 3.14159265 x 3" x 8 = 302

Yes, stock block color refers to the Ford blue paint used on block at factory.

I heard this somewhere along the line, and I'm not certain if it's true, or accurate, but the basic conversion to Litres is to divide CID by 60, correct?

Hence

302/60 = 5.0
289/60 = 4.8
351/60 = 5.9

Conversely

4.6 x 60 = 276

???

OK, another dumb engine question. :)

What does it mean when they say "bored .030" over" or something like that? If it's a 302 with a 4" bore, does that mean it then has a 4.03" bore?

What's the CID on a 302 bored 30 over?

Thanks,
Ian (newbie)

Thanks for the relpy, jessierose

Where in socal do you live? I'm in LA. I just bought my first classic mustang, and obviously I have a lot of learning to do. Any good clubs/info sources in LA? Some place that can help me restore, maintain and treat my car right?
