pouring alchohol, acetone, thinner etc in heads to check for leaks...

a friend of mine took my heads and installed bigger valves and did a valve job and better springs etc. got them back and poured some lacquer thinner in the ports and pretty much all of the valves seep a little bit, it doesnt just come out instantly. you have to let it sit for a sec and then it will finally trickle out a bit around the valve, it doesnt pour out but it just a little wet under the valve, nothing major.

is this normal at all?? or should it be sealing 100%

if not then i will give them back to him to fix them.

it should be pretty tight. its gonna take alot of effort to put the missing material back. just out of curisity where they E7's or osmething good?

i dont know what to tell you to do unless he can put in a bigger valve and grind the affected area to a better/ correct shape.

they are already 1.9/1.6 valves.

i'll figure something out. they way they look doesnt look like it would cause a problem. it gets through but you can barely see it under the valve. it doesnt drip or run down at all. would it run funny if i just ran them?

They dont have to be %100 leak free. Turn the heads combustion chamber side up, fill each combustion chamber with a penetrating oil like wd-40, pb-blaster, or something similar, and let it sit for a few hours. It should at the very most just be a little damp in the ports around the valves. If it seeps more than that try lapping the valves, your buddy may have neglected to do this.

what exactly is lapping the valves, sorry i sound like a newb lol i dont know.

Lapping valves are done to check the location of the valve-to-seat contact point and to smooth the mating surfaces.

To lap the valve, dab lapping compound (abrasive paste) on the valve face. Install the valve into the cylinder head and rotate with a lapping stick (a wooden stick with a rubber plunger for holding the valve head). Rub your hands back and forth on the lapping stick to spin the valve on its seat. This rubs the grinding compound between the valve face and the seat. Remove the valve and check the contact point. A dull gray stripe around the seat and face of the valve indicates the valve-toseat contact point. This helps you narrow or move the valve seat.

Anytime I ever install new springs I always whack the valve stems with a dead blow hammer to seat the valves in the pockets.

you just whack the spring to open it up to have it snap shut?? should i try that??

and yes thumper is cool. his work is top notch the port work he does is great! my set of e7s he has done. hold them up to a pair of stock unported e7s and the difference is unreal... especially on the exhaust side.
