Hey guys, I have an 88gt and desperatley need to know where are the relays and or fuses for the power door locks. (Please dont say the fuses are in the fuse box because they're not there) Thank you.

I'm not sure.. maybe if you described the problem you're having we could help you out better. I don't know that I've ever seen a fuse for the door locks.. doesn't the fuse panel door say one of the fuses is for the locks?

There are no relays or fuses for the door lock power, but there is a circuit breaker in position 14 in the fuse box that is responsible for protecting the door lock and power window circuits.

my door locks don't work either. i have checked and there is definitely no fuse

if the same circuit breaker is for power door locks and windows then why are my power windows working?

Your probably have bad door locking actuators.

I need to make a small correction in my response. The circuit breaker at position 14 in the fuse box is for the power windows only. There is another circuit breaker for the power windows, door locks, and lumbar support in the engine bay next to the starter motor relay. Sorry for any inconvenience. These Ford manuals aren't clearly marked in some areas and mismarked in others.

Geez. Now I'm starting to get a little ticked.

Correction to my above post.

Inline circuit breaker located by the starter relay supplies power to the door locks NOT the power windows (UNLESS you have a convertible). A table in one manual conveniently leaves out this need to know detail that is shown in another volume.

My power doors don't work either, yet the windows do... any description of this wire that has the fuse on it?

Have you tried using a jumper wire to the actuators themselves to make sure they work? If no then replace them.. if they work with a jumper wire but not with the switch, just start at the connector at the actuator, and trace the wiring through the door, through the hose and behind the kick panel up to the dash.. use a test light while having somebody hit the button.. see where you are in the wire when the power stops flowing or the ground goes bad. Also check the wiring from the switches on the doors themselves with a test light.. just poke the test light through the wire like every foot or so until you narrow down the problem.

Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?

A new actuator for less than $4. Fix one side for $17, do both sides for only $23. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.

My power locks don't work either but I think it's because the previous owner had an alarm system and removed the alarm. However in the process of removing the alarm he didn't reconnect the power locks.. I am too lazy to climb in the seat upside down and look under the dash for the wiring LOL..

Hah, my power locks don't work either because the previous owner removed the actuators. So before you check all your wiring, make sure you even have them.

I know this is an old thread, but I just solved this exact problem on both an 87 and a 89. The problem was that the door locks and lumbar seats no longer worked after an engine change. After much head scratching, I realized the common thread between the two cars was that we had installed mini starters on both in place of the older, larger style starters. When you do this, you have to make and run a jumper wire from the fender-mounted starter solenoid to the new mini starter. When you do this, you have to rearrange the wires on the solenoid because one side is now electrically dead. The power locks and lumbar seats get their power from a connection and relay at the solenoid. I had forgotten to move the relay to the other side of the solenoid. I moved them and Presto! - the locks and seat inflators worked! Hope this helps someone, as it is a five minute fix.
