Kinda new to this but....I have a '96 GT and the motor work that has been done is K&N intake, 85mm BBK throttle body, FRPP intake manifold, BBK x-pipe, and a Flow Master exhaust. Now what kind of gains do I have over stock. Another thing I need to know is I want to add headers and gears. What brand/kind of headers should I go with that adds the most power?(i.e. hooker, headman etc/Long tube, mid length, shorties) And also how much power would I have total with the headers? And also what brand gears and what ratio? I have heard I should go with 4.10's but would 3.73's be better for a daily driver? I have the money for the PI swaps but I am not going to do them until the engine craps on me because when the heads come off everything will get redone and why waste the money on it when it doesn't need it. But any information would be great. Thanks!
Josh

i have a 96 gt as well. i got mine dynoed a few months ago and with an O/R xpipe, flowmaster mufflers, 75mm throttle body i put down 200 hp at the wheels and 275 torque. i added pulleys and an intake so i am not sure what it has now. i am in the process of buying some 4.30s for my car. if you want a daily driver you should be fine with 4.10s. dont fear the gear!!! as far as exhaust, i am going with BBK long tube headers, a shorty style bbk x pipe and mac pro dumps. IMO shorties and equal length headers are a waste. go for the long tubes.

Is your car auto or stick?
I went with 3:73's in my auto and wish I did 4:10's. It's a daily driver.
85mm TB is way too big. I have a 75mm on my headswapped 97.
If your going to do headers do long tubes, not sure which brand to go with through.

My intro

Hey guys I'm new to the forum just wanted to introduce myself and my stang. Shes a 2000 GT conv. with 3.73 gears, 75mm throttle body, upper intake, lightning MAF 90mm, BBK longtubes, BBK O/R X pipe, Flowmaster 40 series mufflers and 10 pound ATI prochargd with intercooler. I always enjoy reading you alls responses and questions. Look forward to chating with you all since I can't chat with my girlfriend b/c she hates my car.

Yeah my ex hated my car too but my new girlfriend loves it she even reads my MMFF and asks me questions.

Are you sure you have a FRPP intake manifold?? I am not sure but don't those have to be mated up with the FRPP heads??

as everyone else has said....do yourslef a favor and swap out your throttle body...if you can't find a smaller aftermarket one that find a stock one...you will make more power with it....

Just an FYI my car made 209rwhp and 280rwtq with just an O/R X pipe and Flowmaster Cat-back...I have since installed a PI intake manifold but have no new numbers yet....feels much stronger though :D

well the thing is I just bought this car and the mods were already installed on the car. So I do not know for sure that it is an 85mm I know it is a BBK throttle body but not sure of size. Also He said it was a Ford Racing manifold and I said FRPP and he goes yeah I think so. For all I know is it could be stock. I can just take the intake piping off and measure it right to see what size it is? How is it hurting me? Is it taking away torque or what? Also How much is just labor on putting gears in? Samw with headers how much is just labor on that istallation for long tube? Thanks

If your car is your daily 3.73 is a good gear. I have an auto and it woke it up like crazy. I went for a 3.08. I can now light the tires all the way through first except right before it hits second. Take any 96 or 97 and it will maybe go 25 ft. If your commute is not long or you drive less than 30 miles a day 4.10's would be OK. Power - K&N - 2 hp, Manifold is about 5hp, X pipe 12hp , Flows 2hp, Throttle body 0 maybe minus. My H hooked to the Stock Catback was the best SOTP power mod I have done so far.

Also one more thing I may have a chance to buy my buddies MSD 6al ignition from him for cheap and is that a good mod to have or should I not even waste my time with it? Thanks

I wouldn't waste your time....I am no expert but I think our ignition must be decent because I rarely if ever hear of anyone changing it out for an MSD setup....

to answer your question above....see if you can take some pictures from under the hood...I think the FRPP intake manifold is a cast iron or aluminum intake where as the stock intake is plastic...that should be an obvious sign....I think you may have your "intakes" mixed up...an intake Manifold is different than say a "cold Air intake".....take some pictures :D

GEar labor is roughly 175-275$ I think I paid 440$ installed that included everything from gears to shop charges.....I think the labor was $225 for mine..

hope this helps...

No I know what an intake and an intake manifold is. Yeah I now know it's not an frpp but do you know what the numbers are for the PI intake is because the number I found on mine is: SAE-9424CA M738E Dunno he may have just added performance to the description because he said it has a new ford performance intake. Oh and I went and looked at the throttle body and it is a 70mm BBK he must have missed typed and put 80. Thats another reason why I think it's just a new "stock" manifold. Oh well.

As for the MSD....Thats what I was thinking as well because I rarely see MSD in peoples mods list. Alright thanks guys!

ok yeah it's possible he replaced it with a PI intake if his cracked maybe....but more than likely if it was replaced it was replaced with a stock pre PI intake....I am not sure of the model numbers for the PI intakes....maybe someone else can chime in or you might be able to do a search in the forum for a listing...
