**Power Loss Problem...update, lets solve it!**

Ok I have a modified 94 and it is just slightly quicker then a stock fox 5.0 or same speed as a 94 with minor boltons whats wrong?

speed MODS:
Cobra SVO Intake
World Windsor Jr. Iron Heads
E303 Cam
Edlebrock/BBK 70mm TB
BBK CAI
BBK Shorty Headers
BBK Offroad H pipe
Flowmaster 40 series mufflers
3.55 Gears

Now I have done the following:
Set Timing to 16*
Cleaned MAF
Cleaned IAC
Set TPS
Changed Plugs (autolite 25s but I gapped to .047!!! could that be a prob? It wasnt slower after change but I didnt notice a diffrence)

Things I have done fairly recently:
Wires
Cap
Fuel Filter
Oil Change, Rad Fluid Flush

What the hell is wrong with this thing? It feels as if its lost some low end power, doesnt burn a DROP of oil. Oil pressure reads around the O in "Normal" sometimes around the R. Doesnt over heat.

Before I could chrip them in 3rd now it barely spins in 2nd. But I did change my tire combo to BFG Gforce KDs from a cheaper brand (AVON) but still it deffently doesnt go like it used to. I dont excessivly beat on it and it was parked over winter.

HELP!!!!

I agree on the plugs...run em to .054...I always did and have...I run .060 with my PD ignition set-up....I use NGK UR45 V-Groove...running for 3 yrs without a hitch...

Have you scanned it to see if somethings in there???

I got a cheap o scanner the other day going to try it tommorow on my weekend to see what happens

But the plug change didnt effect the power lost one bit, when I changed them I actually didnt notice anything, so I dobut thats the route of the problem.

I would buy a vacuum guage, check vacuum, get a code scanner, chk that also. I've had a lot of driveabiility a power loss issues, I've had problems from vacuum leaks coming from the intake, exhaust leaks, bad maf. You may want to chk the voltage to the maf at idle, or swap with a stock one, see what vacuum your pulling, check for any exh leaks and see if there are any codes. Do you have any work done to the heads, see my sig for dyno, it was before I added some other parts, with exhaust leak. I have a pretty good port job on the heads though. While we do give a lot of weight to a fox, my friends 92lx would be pretty close when we both were close to stock. (exhaust, pulleys, gears), should be able to pull if your car is runnin ok.

Vaccuume, fuel pressure, timing. Thats where I would start. Vaccuume leaks wreak havoc on our cars, fuel pressure can cause power loss if there is too much or too little, timing can make or break our cars; Too much causes pinging or detonation, and causing excessive heat and power loss, too little = loss of throttle response and power. Other than that I would pull codes. Good luck hope it helps.

Like I said my bro has a 94 with headers, mufflers, and shortthrow with 373 and he keeps up with me fairly easily shouldnt be like that.

Going to pull codes today. Going to try to get into my mechanic to drop my timing down to 14* prob wont happen till next week. I dont have my own gun.

How do I test for vaccume leaks? I once saw a vaccume leak tester, its a gauge on somthing that looks like a caulking gun which you pump...anyone know if these work?

Is there a easy way to test for fuel pressure? Besides buying a gauge...I know you can just get a fuel gauge and mount on my rail. Like these:

Think I should get a fuel pressure regulator too or are they just a waste of time thats what I heard?

fpr's are definitly worth the $ and time. tuning is so much easier, especially if you change your setup down the road. my 88 was starving before i put a fpr in, and now it's fat and happy, i got 2 bald tires that would agree :)

Well many have told me that there a waste of time and money.

I do have a light header leak, it keeps comming back which pisses me off might be the header is warped yet there pretty much brand new. Even when It was sealed up it still had the same power.

Do our cars use 3 digit or 2 digit codes?
Trying to use my cheap-o scanner its kinda difficult to know which code is which.

I dissconected the spout to go for a drive to see what that was like, it didnt have quite as much power, I deffently noticed a diffrence.
One thing I noticed with the spout out is the back pressure was greater, it did that rumbling sound a lot more then normal when I let my foot off the accelerator and let my motor slow me down.

ANOTHER THING I NOTICED is that my car backfires if I tap on the gas (just like 1/8th throttle) like 3-4 times in a row, It did this in 3rd at about 2,000rpm. What could that be?

sounds like timing issues to me!! Have the car timed correctly. I am at 5,500 ft here in albuquerque NM and my car likes 12*advance. also, be sure that the balancer has not "slipped" which would cause your timing reference points to be inacurate. Hope this helps.
