i dont remember which kind exactly, but it is ATF. i like redline power steering fluid (meeting the requirements for power steering systems requiring ATF).
M1's ATF might work for ya too. i think it takes type F, but i have mercon 3 floating around in my head, but i think that was for the 95 probe.
ok, so i really did not help. i do like synthetics for the system, and many synthetics meet requirements for many ATF's (i think that was sorta the point).
good luck.

.
Its ok to use any type of transmission fluid in power steering pump reservoir.
I would get Mercon/Dextron 3 or Mercon 5 of a reputable brand.
That the type of fluid late model FORDS use.

it doesnt matter what you use, you can use mecron/dextron, mopar +3 mopar+4 or "power steering fluid" or any other suitable hydraulic fluid (just buy the cheapest stuff)

I have always just used regular power steering fluid from the parts store. I didn't even realize it caled for ATF. Wonder if running P/W steering fluid instead of ATF would cause the whining noise mine makes?

Just use type F. Make sure you flush the system good and don't let the level go below the filler tube neck. They don't last long when you start to run them low/empty.
