my power steering pump is going so i bought one today at advance auto. $99 but i get $45 back when i return the old one. is that an ok deal?

anyway, i want to do it myself ... it looks pretty easy. think i can do it in an hour?

also, what should i watch out for?

Which brand did you get? You obviously bought a reman unit since there is a core charge. These units usually have a lifetime warranty so for the money it is a good deal. Hardest part is getting the damn pulley off the pump. Mine doesn't like to come off.

I changed mine twice with remans before buying a used OEM. The oem actually worked. The very first one I bought was an autozone one and the lower nipple did not fit my 95 so I was forced to pay $50 more and go somewhere else to get the right pump.

The pulley removal/installation is easy if you have the $30 tool. I just ended up buying it and adding it to my tool box because I work on 5.0's so much. Remember, NEVER try to pry the pulley off. It will not come off that way. Use the special puller available at autozone or most parts stores. It usually takes some elbow grease to get it off, but eventually it will pop off. Oh, leave the belt on for the first half too when removing it, makes it so the pulley doesnt spin. The bolts behind the pulley are reverse torx. I believe they are a 35 or 40 torx. I will look later when I get home. Buy that tool too from the parts store. DONT use any thing else. You will just FUCG up the bolt. I have had to file and grind too many peoples fug ups because of that problem to get that pump out. What a loss of time. Other than that, it is a piece of cake. Undo a couple of hoses and lift the bad boy out. Put the new one in and reverse the removal for installation. Fill with ATF.

Can you tell I have done this a few times?

PM me for more info. If needed.
