The power steering pump on my son's 99 3.8L whines just like the one on my wife's Windstar. Is there anything that can eleminate this noise? I really hate the sound it makes, it sounds really whimpy. My 04 4.6l GT sounds nothing like these two. Any help will be appreciated.

Is it when he makes sharp turns? If so, tell him to stop making sharp turns. I don't think that there's anything you can do to get rid of it, since all the V6's have it.

yeah it's kinda normal... when you move the sterring wheel to far over to one side, that'll happen

A service place did a power steering flush with a pure synthetic formula designed specificly to reduce whine and guess what, it drasticly cut the whine out of my v6 stang. After the car has been on 15 min there is absolutely no whine and when the car is stone cold there is a slight whine. Even when cold and it makes its little whine it is no where near what it was before at any time. It also improved steering feel and consistancy. However, I don't know what fluid they used though. It is a really dark red color so I don't think it is your standard atf.

Stick some dual Super 40 flows on there. You'll never hear the whine again. Then again, all you will hear is the exhaust lol. I can only hear mine with the windows down, idling and turning the wheel, over 1500 rpms can't hear it anymore, and definately into the fun zone (3000+) can't hear anything but the 3.8 screaming.
