My drivers side power window quit working. It's been down for a few months and I finally decided to try to fix it. I tried tapping the motor with a hammer under load to no avail. I pulled the motor out and hooked it back to the switch. I hit it and the motor ran. I reinstalled it in the door and the window worked. I put the door back together and the window still worked. I then turned the engine on and tried it, again it worked. I rolled down the passenger side window and back up. Then I tried the drivers side and it won't budge.

Before I go pulling the door apart again *grumble* are there any other possibilities at this point OTHER than the motor? I don't want to go spending $100 on the motor and have that not be the problem.

When the window did work for a few minutes, the tracks seemed to move smoothly and without any noticeable "struggle". When I push the button, I here a loud click (relay?) but the motor doesn't even try move.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

IMO it's not the motor. No idea what it might be, though. What year?

My 2002 GT had the same problem. One day all of the sudden my driver's side windows wouldn't roll back up. When I hit the button I could hear an audible click, and if I held it down I could see my dome light dim, but nothing would happen. My car was still under warranty and ford installed a new window motor, fixing the problem.

Use a volt meter and check if your getting voltage to the motor. That will tell you if the motor is broken or something else.

It's a 2001 GT. I checked the voltage to the motor and it is getting +/- 12v when I push the switch up/down. I guess I'll just have to try a new motor and see what happens.
