Pre-Kenne Bell

Within the next year or so I'd like to eventually put a Kenne Bell into my 00 GT. Now, before I do that, what bolt ons SHOULD I have done? I was going to be buying an Accufab pl/tb combo but I heard those are good for centrifugal blowers which a Kenne Bell ISN'T.

So before I go buy some bolt ons, what SHOULD I be looking into "pre-Kenne Bell"?

Go with a 70 or 75 MM throttle body, full exhaust from engine back, and gears (3.55 or 3.73 max).

Also if you don't get KB's Boost-a-Pump, look into an upgraded fuel pump too... 42 lb injectors and better spark (if the kit doesnt come with em, can't remember ) but if 9PSI intercooled (5 non) is all youre running then that should be fine n dandy.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING EXCEPT AN EXHAUST.

IF IN DOUBT LOOK ON THE KB WEBSITE, THEIR KIT WILL PROVIDE EVERYTHING YOU NEED SO IT WOULD BE A WASTE TO BUY THEM SEPERATLY.

ALSO SOME BOLT ONS ARE NOT SO GOOD AND WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS

IF YOU ONLY GET KB STUFF IT WILL ALL WORK 100% TOGETHER AND THEY WILL BE ABLE TO OFFER A BETTER TUNE STRAIGHT OFF

things to look at before hand are handling and brakes, if your're gonna have a 450bhp car you need the rest of it to handle.

Wow, thanks for teh replys guys!

So basically I should focus on suspension and brakes. So this being such things as:
sub-frame connectors?
tower strut brace?
new shocks/struts?
anything else?

What full exhaust system would you recommend?

While changing the gears you may as well beef up the rear end also. 31 spline axles etc., allowing you to run slicks without breaking.

Another thing, will a Kenne Bell fit under a stock GT hood? Or will I need to cowl it...

as long as you stick with the normal 1.7 kit it will fit fine, the option 2.2 needs a hood but is not avaiable as a kit. The 1.7 can produce about 700rwhp if needed so the 2.2 might be over kill.

Yeah, gears are a good idea to plus any styling mods you may want (wheels and such). KB recommend the 3.73 gears as the 4.10's will over rev the blower.

Systems I was looking at where SLP and Magnaflow X-pipe and Cat back system, should sound good and give maybe 10rwhp more than stock with the blower.

IMO yes do all the chassis work 1st, its gets it done out of the way then add the power. If you do it the other way round it will always be a compromise as you'll always find reasons not to do it.

With 450bhp your Stang will not only look great, accelarate like a supercar so why not make it handle and stop like on too. Just my .2 pennies worth. But this way no matter what you meet on the road (freeway or twisties) it will need to be something quite extreme to beat you.

I totally agree. Plus, the $4,000 price tag for the kenne bell kit is quite the bank breaker. I won't have that kinda spending cash for a year. See I'm a saver. I like to put 18k of my salary in the bank for future use which only leaves me with 12k spending cash after expenses and the stupid govt.

Those Brembo brakes look very nice and for $1,300 they better stop my car on a DIME! I am going to seriously consider all of this though.

I think my first focus will be on:
-Tokico shocks/struts (NOT adjustable since I don't really need it) $435
-Rear Upper Control Arms $137.30
-Rear Lower Control Arms $177.25
-Steeda Front Sway Bar $159.95
-Motive Performance Plus 3.73 Mustang Gears $180

Do all these parts look good? Am I missing anything? I currently have a MAC exhaust (came with the car) but I'm not sure if it's a "full" exhaust.

But do you need new heads and rods with the Kenne Bell kit? And will the throttle body be necessary BEFORE the KB kit?

Oh and I forgot to mention, my FIRST mod is going to be the MGW shifter. I want that so bad with the T handle.

Also, I don't plan on doing the s/c install myself since I'd have no freakin clue where to start. How long and how much would a shop charge to do the Kenne Bell install?

I remember a shop quoting it at something like 16 hours with the intercooler and boost-a-pump

Something like 270 steps total w/ intercooler

I've seen people charged $1000 for the install but if you have ANY mechanical ability you and a few friends could do it yourselves. Took me and my buddy 1 long weekend to do the KB install and some other work. The instructions are quite good and people on the message boards will help out if needed.

Well one of my friends is a gear head and has done engine swaps and turbo installs on SE-Rs and he will be helping. Maybe we can pull it off.

tl75, what boost are you runnin on your KB? 6 or 9? Have you done any other engine mods or you just bought your car and a KB 1.7 kit.

4:10s won't "over rev" the blower....trying to run an 18# pulley on the 1.7l that's designed to max out at 14# will over rev the blower.

KB recommends 3:73s as the maximum gear for the purpose of getting better 1/4 mile times....according to their testing, 4:10s just loose grip.

I've got 4;10s in mine (only running 6psi), but she's a street car...so the 4:10s make her more fun IMO. I've got a buddy who's forged motor is going in right now...he's going to run 14psi...with 4:30s!!!!!!!!!!but he's got a T56 6-speed in her as well.

Gears won't over rev the lung...just makes your shift faster and spin further.

My advise is like the rest...good exhaust, suspension and brakes.

Well, I'm looking to keep the stang as my street car...so would 4:10s and 6psi be my best choice? The 6psi kit is also MUCH cheaper than the 9psi intercooled.
